I have long wanted to watch this 2016 ten-day newspaper's first work, "In This Corner of the World" is the second animation that ranks first among the top ten Japanese ten-day newspapers after "My Neighbor Totoro" in 1988. The anti-war theme takes Hiroshima at the end of World War II as the stage, and uses colorful animations to reproduce the cruelty of the war, telling the story of ordinary people struggling to survive under the haze of war.
"In extraordinary times, ordinary everyday life is supreme happiness." Xiaoling is a girl born in Epo, Hiroshima City, Japan, who is good at painting. The world in her eyes is different from that of others. When she was a child, she encountered traffickers who trafficked children, and Zashiki boys who stole watermelons. When painting the sea, she would draw white rabbits. She would only do two things, one is Painting, one is to make seaweed, she always lacks roots and tendons, and has a cute personality. She was a daydream when she was offered a marriage proposal at the age of 18. Confused, she married the naval port "Wu City", which is 20 kilometers away from her hometown. Life is dull and boring, rationing, growing vegetables, cooking, and laundry, but Xiaoling is also enjoying herself.
"Unbearable sadness." The country launched a war, and the people had no choice to be involved. In the summer of Showa 19-20, this ordinary family experienced the suffering and grief caused by the war. As the base of the Japanese navy, Kure City was repeatedly attacked by air during the war. The fire from warships, the trauma from air strikes, the streets are covered with ash. The important things around Xiaoling were taken away one by one, life and death were a momentary matter, watching Harumi was blown away in front of her eyes, losing her right hand for painting... Even so, she did not give up hope. The rulers' ambition to be broken eventually led to purgatory on earth like Hiroshima and Nagasaki. The war is cruel, but the animation has brought the horrible, flesh-and-blood reality through like a watercolor painting. The film shows more that ordinary people are struggling to survive under the daily deteriorating war situation, actively face the trivial matters of life, appreciate the strong attitude of the people to survive after the war, and have food to eat, great! "Tomorrow and forever." After the Yuyin broadcast, Xiaoling's attitude made my favorability for this movie drop a lot. Completely disapprove of Japan's consciousness of reflecting on war as a defeated country. For Japan, this may be the so-called political correctness, but from the perspective of the people of other countries (especially the invaded China), the Japanese emperor's brainwashing of its own people can be said to be too much, and the people also hate war. But those ideological propaganda are deeply rooted in the hearts of the people. If there is no defeat in the war, how can it be defeated... Brainwashing is such a terrible thing. Not realizing how abominable the initiator of the war is, it is completely unreasonable not to find problems from oneself!
