It took me two days to finish watching this movie. Because there is a survivor's self-report at the beginning of the film, there is not much suspense. We know they survived, they all survived. But the whole viewing process, I have to say, is still very shocking. In the face of nature, the individual is as small as an ant. The goal of climbers is to conquer nature through their own efforts. But is it really conquest? Climbing to the top is not conquest. Climbing to the top is nothing but a contract with nature. It gives us this opportunity to stand at that height and feel the greatness of the world with it. This may just be a kind of charity to the brave. Where there is charity, there is a test. Whether it's a broken leg or falling into an ice crevice, Joe has so many moments that he brushed past death, and the line between life and death naturally gives you a chance to survive the catastrophe, it just depends on whether you can grasp it or not. I have always believed that there is destined somewhere, no matter how many times, fate pushes us to a point of no return, as long as it has not completely defeated us, there is still room for manoeuvre. So never despair, always have faith in death and rebirth. From Joe's self-report, we can hear a lot of his mood at that time, whether it is desperate or determined. But I think that the words are really pale, and the real situation must be ten times or more than it sounds. But it was this little bit of determination that even if he believed that he would die here, he still refused to give up, which supported him to complete the journey to death. In the face of the so-called fate, this is probably the need for persistence.
It is written in the end credits that the behavior of Simon's roommate's broken rope has been condemned by many climbers. Mortals presumably like to occupy the moral high ground and dictate the behavior of others. Do you have to be two corpses frozen in snow to be a moral climber? If everyone may not survive, at least one must be preserved. In an extreme environment, the choice of the lesser of the two powers is not simply that I leave you for my own life, but if I become a drag on our survival, I will also let you leave me and live. In the face of life and death, raising your arms and shouting what morality is immoral, to be honest, really hypocritical. If you're Simon, you don't necessarily do more than him.
