Cleo de 5 a 7 is an interesting French film where the storyline follows a path onto tracing the a woman`s personal intrigues as she traverses Paris waiting on her medical results. This lady is a young pop artist whose life is Paris is filled with tension over her biopsy results as she fears that she might be suffering from cancer. Several perspectives on the Paris city are observed from the film as her interaction with the city is in real time. The main subject tin the creation of this cinema was the debate about the traditional cinema and the modern cinema shooting. Parisian landscapes are featured in the beginning of the movie scenes to appear as if it was a documentary. The director of the film, Varda, wanted to use the Paris scenes deliberately as a conscious way to unravel the French history and demonstrate the Parisian lifestyle. The impact of these scenes is essentially political in the development in the film of the cinema because it brought a new dimension in the production of modern era films.

The traits of the main character are amplified by the aggressiveness of the city life surrounding her which was the aim of the film producer. The busy Paris city exudes life because of the jazz cafes and the milliners which are the portraits that hold the real image of the city life. Viewed outwardly, the producer, Varda is using the city of Paris to narrate a story in real life. According to Varda, the understanding the landscape of the Paris city through the various scenes ingrained in the film will help in appreciating the French people in the long-run and their culture. As Cléo awaits here diagnosis she engages in an unconscious diagnosis and investigation of the Paris city. Essentially, cleo becomes a source of inspiration as she projects of women on the television screens as she confronts the common ironic view about Paris which in actual sense is an outward reality (Powrie, 2006).

The use of Paris as a location in this film is of Greta relevance. The Dome café, a place populated by Parisian literati and artists is supposed to be a place that should not be seen by the outsiders because it exhibits the history of colonialism. The actor wears dark sunglasses when passing this area. After meeting Antoine, Cléo changes her perception of the Paris city from being too narcissistic and now she sees it as a city with disparate and exotic elements that reflects a city that opens up to different people and changing realities. Cléo perception about the Paris city as applied in the first scenes of this film can be traced to the surrealists view about Paris where it is seen as city with many stop signs that talk to people. In conclusion, most French movies as themed on the Paris city as the best location to derive narratives on romance but these two films have traversed this topic to other issues that re core to cinematography.
