Film review, Live by Night, incompetent adaptation

Ben Affleck is another self-directed and self-directed film, which once again verifies the old Chinese saying "Fat water does not flow to outsiders' fields", but it's a pity, too clumsy adaptation and a poker face "Batman" (no acting skills) Arguably), turning this excellent literary work into scum.

"Live by Night" - excellent gangster literature, is the latest novel by the famous American writer Dennis Lehane. Speaking of this writer, there is a lot of background. In the past years, many of his excellent works have been adapted into movies, such as "Mystic River" (Mystic River, adapted by Clint Eastwood into a movie of the same name, won six Oscars. nominated), "Shutter Island," the film of the same name starring Oscar winner Leonardo DiCaprio. This time, being photographed by Ben Affleck again (not the first time to collaborate, as early as 10 years ago, it was sparked by the work "Gone, Baby, Gone"), which once again illustrates the attractiveness of Dennis's work.

Let’s talk a little bit about the original, then turn our attention back to the movie. Overall feeling, two "satisfied", two "disappointed".

The tone of "Satisfaction" works in
the United States in the 1920s and 1930s, under the background of "Prohibition", the period when gangs were prevalent. Director Ben used the lens to interpret that era very well. The dark and melancholy tone of the tones suddenly brought the audience back to the past years. There are no bright and colorful dazzling colors, only the most essential and age-sensitive dark and elegant tones, which are very praised.

The details of "Satisfied" works range
from the scenery to the costumes, from the decorations and furnishings in the building to the shops and banks on the street, from the behavior of ordinary people to the tone of the gang members. All the details have been considered by Ben, and it cannot be said that they are not thoughtful. Similarly, it is precisely because of these well-thought-out details that the "appearance" of the work is infinitely close to the atmosphere and breath of the original work.

"Disappointed" Ben's acting skills
I have never doubted Ben's ability to adapt and original. After all, he has won the Oscar, so he must have the strength. But for his acting skills, I can't compliment him personally. No matter which character, from Batman to American soldier to high-IQ killer, the characters are different, the personalities are different, and the behaviors are very different, but the only thing that doesn't change is Ben's expressionless face. This guy makes every movie. It's a PokerFace, with no acting skills at all. I really feel sorry for the actor who plays opposite him. Faced with such a handsome and paralyzed idiot, how to act?

The plot structure of "Disappointment" is
loose, and people often say that "the shape is scattered and the spirit is not scattered". The theme of this film is not deep and unclear, and it is also "spiritual"; the story has no peaks and valleys, just like singing. Frustration", dry and uninteresting, lacking the tension of the story, it is also "type scattered".
Boring, good original works may not be able to be adapted into good movies. Words have their own unique charm, not movies can be perfectly interpreted. What's more, it was disabled by Ben's adaptation, and the wonderful gangster's daily life and love story became "scum" in seconds under the direction of Ben.

Written at the end, excellent original, mediocre adaptation, gorgeous set, boring characters. Ben is a vase and can only play "Mask Batman".

Director★☆☆☆☆(Grasp the rhythm of the film, design the protagonist characters, conceive the storyline, very immature)
Actor★☆☆☆☆(The protagonist Ben has no acting skills at all, Zoe Saldana is worth watching)
Story★★ ★☆☆ (basically follow the original work, but the storyline is very loose)
visual effects ★★★★★ (detailed, delicate, and endearing)
sound effects ★☆☆☆☆ (very general, completely outside the film) It

is not recommended to watch the

details for the time being Film review + stills first published in "The Journey of Floyd and Helen", thank you

  • [first lines]

Joe Coughlin: [narrating] In 1917, I signed up to fight the Huns in France. Good men died all around me, and I saw no reason for it. The rules we lived by were lies. And they didn't apply to those who made them. I swore If I made it home, I would never follow orders again. I left a soldier, I came home an outlaw.

  • Joe Coughlin: I'm crazy about her.

    Thomas Coughlin: Crazy isn't love.
