The movie "Stalker" was mentioned in the book yesterday, and I turned it out to see it today when I was bored. This is a two-and-a-half-hour poetic sci-fi film, adapted from the novel "Roadside Picnic". Through the three people's exploration of special areas, they gradually show us the process of pursuing the essence of the human soul in front of the camera.
This is a very quiet movie, with no gorgeous pictures, no complicated plots, just some concise and meaningful dialogues, and the changing pictures of the virtual and real in front of the camera, especially the water, presented in various forms In front of the audience, the usual coat is lost, showing another style. Through the performance of the lens, water seems to contain a mysterious power.
"Stalker" has discarded various attractive elements in common movies, leaving only the necessary elements. To read it, you still need a little patience (I feel that after writing this sentence, I reveal that I am watching it. The impatience shown on the way to the movie. But that doesn't prevent its pure sci-fi depth of thought). Although it is a sci-fi movie, its sci-fi is not expressed with common special effects or imaginative architecture. It expresses sci-fi with some special concepts, simple but powerful.
The story is about, more than 20 years ago, a meteorite fell into a small town in Russia, the residents of the town disappeared mysteriously, and the police isolated the area. Legend has it that there is a room in this area. If people come to this room, they can learn the deepest wishes and desires in their subconscious. Many people who are troubled by suffering and sorrow want to reach this room and get some kind of relief. The stalker plays the role of a guide. He is experienced and well-trained, and has led people to this area many times.
This time, the stalker will take two people to this area, one is a writer who wants to get inspiration, and the other is a scientist who wants to explore the unknown. During the journey of exploration, the three of them continue to experience some strange events, time and space are quietly changing, and the contradictions between the three are gradually revealed in the dialogue. When the three of them were about to reach the room, the conflict between the three finally reached a climax. The writer did not want to obtain inspiration, but wanted to escape the hypocrisy of the real world, but could not face up to his inner desire; the scientist did not want to explore Unknown, just want to use ammunition to destroy this area that reason cannot explain; and the stalker is also desperate because he sees the selfishness and hypocrisy of human nature.
Maybe for stalkers, this area is like a religious belief. He knows the laws of traveling in the special zone, and he is also in awe of the sacred power of the special zone. It can be said that the special zone is the world he firmly insists on. But the other two travelers, one is a pioneer of consciousness and the other is a pioneer of natural science, but neither of them has anything to believe in. One dares not look directly into his heart, and the other wants to destroy the unknown. The identity forms a strong contrast and irony. This contrast and irony broke the stalker's trust in the world. When faith is broken, what is there but despair?
At the end of the story, I thought he was just an ordinary stalker with a wall of books at home, maybe he was the real thinker. And those knowledge workers who wear the cloak of striving for the advanced nature of mankind are only doing superficial articles. When the last surreal image appeared, along with the sound of "Ode to Joy", nothingness and despair turned into hope and trust, and the theme was sublimated to some extent.
Don't watch this movie with the mentality of seeing cool sci-fi, otherwise you will only see disappointment and impatience.
It's a pity that I didn't take off the wonderful lines that appeared in the movie, but maybe that's it, the experience is good, not for the form, but for the inside.
