The edge of good and evil

It happened that I was reading "Autobiography of Congwen", which was part of Shen Congwen's experience when he was young. Among them is a brief account of his years in the army. He wrote that their troops settled in a small town and only killed a thousand people. And their last unit was 3000, the last unit was 2000. They have killed very few. He also mentioned that as a document of the army, he recorded daily records of the army's torture of prisoners. Those peasants who didn't understand anything were often beaten and lost their minds.

Finally, he mentioned that his concept of good and evil has changed since then. The concept of good and evil is different from those in the city and those in the peaceful zone.
I can't explain what kind of concept of good and evil he has, and I can't imagine it. Like he said, I've never seen so many people die. Seeing something with your own eyes is a completely different sensory impact than hearing it with your ears, and the feeling it brings to people is also different.
And this movie gave me the same feeling. What is goodness? What is evil? Especially the fat man killed all three at the end. When he was finally killed by the policeman who was still a child.
Can you tell what is evil and what is good?

Conspiracy theories are numb to read too much, but Mel Gibson is still old and strong, not bad...

Edge of Darkness quotes

  • Thomas Craven: You know, Bill, no one expects you to be perfect. But there's just a few basic things you gotta get right. Always do the best you can by your family. Go to work every day. Always speak your mind. Never hurt anyone that doesn't deserve it... & never take anything from the bad guys.

  • Darius Jedburgh: Now, you know better than anyone, cases like these are never solved. They're simply too complicated, too much hard work. There's a lot going on out there in this world. And you just never can connect A to B.

Thomas Craven: How do you know that?

Darius Jedburgh: Because I'm usually the guy that stops you connecting A to B. It's part of what I do.
