To be honest, the handling of the film has greatly reduced the discomfort that this custom brings to us. The warmth of the friendship in front of us, the inspiration of turning into a butterfly, the beauty of shining on the runway, and occasionally interspersed with painful memories of the same year, help buffer the truth itself cruel. It wasn't until Waris Dirie was giving a speech, when he became famous, when the voice could be heard, that the clip of the circumcision was carefully released - the rough sand, the unshielded sun, the girl's heart-piercing cry and blood all over the place.
When I saw the beginning of the film, I still vaguely felt that maybe the custom has its own truth, and the nation's own values should be as worthy of respect as the values of freedom and equality. Why should people in a free society use their own values to speculate on the customs of Somalia, and self-righteousness is defined as "cruel and barbaric". Before the end of the film, I roughly guessed what circumcision was, but it was not as cruel as I dared to imagine. I always felt that the circumcision should be done at night, in the local doctor's tent, by the lights.
No, no, in the hot sun, in the open air, on the gravel. No pain relief, no instruments, no comfort. It was naked deprivation, slaughter in broad daylight. It is the fact that some people, in the name of tradition, justly oppress others, and turn a blind eye to the pain caused by their own hands.
Compassion, everyone has it, if it is not blinded by selfish desires. Murdering innocent people, mutilating others for one's own selfish desires, and putting other values above one's own life will arouse the wrath of all bystanders. Some values can be applied universally. The value of chastity is arguable, but the value of life and happiness is beyond doubt.
Human rights, freedom, and equality, these values can become universal values, indeed because they are more demagogic; Datong society, communist society, Buddhist pure land, and heaven all express the same idea. This world should become a better world, and it should become a better world in our hands. The desert flower is unique because of its tenacity, a little luck and a little kindness from the environment. But that's not enough, there are endless deserts and countless buried seeds that dry up without a little water. In broad daylight, those old oppressions are still going on.
Don't wait for the desert to bloom.
Flowers are supposed to open.
Let the flowers bloom.
