dying rotting

It is not a day or two to like Nicolas Cage. I have seen Leaving Las Vegas, but I feel more than the previous masterpieces.

The story is very simple and suitable for friends who want to suffer from depression. Cage is a failed screenwriter this time. His family and career have collapsed. He chose a strange ending method, sold his property and came to Las Vegas , trying to commit suicide by drinking too much.

The melody is not beautiful, but bleak enough. It can be said that there are only two characters in the film, and there is almost no need for supporting roles. Even if the supporting roles have lines, they are all hard and cold. The ecstasy of the two protagonists, accompanied by jazz music throughout, cold tones, and deliberately dimmed lights, depict a dying protagonist, a rotting, depraved alcoholic. Maybe for me, it can't be said to have any aesthetic feeling, but it can lead to a little thinking.

Cage did not hesitate to destroy his image. His eyes were blurred throughout the film. His dashing, wise, and masculine looks were all gone. Maybe some people could see the sadness of the protagonist, but I guess what Cage wanted to convey was far beyond the sadness .

There are two details in the film worth mentioning.

The first is a 12-second shot. In the early morning of the next day when Cage first arrived in Las Vegas, the sky was gradually brightening but it was still gray, the neon lights were still flashing like night, and a sprinkler drove carelessly downstairs in the tall hotel. The street, driving past the camera, took just 12 seconds. Whenever we think of the casino, there is always a party of feasting and bustling. It turned out that we forgot that it was still early in the morning, when the smoke dissipated, the alcohol evaporated, and life went on as usual, but at this time, most people hadn't left their dreamland.

The second is the retrospective slow-motion at the end of the film. Cage smiled shyly, and finally bit his lip, and the picture was frozen and gradually dimmed.
