There may be no absolute correct answer. Maybe this person saved 12 children who were about to fall into the water after you saved your life. It may also threaten a young girl in a corner of the earth that you don't know about.
But I think you can never predict the future. Then this person needs to bear the consequences for what he does now. God damn it.
But then again, what are the faces of the hostages in the cage, have you ever thought, if these people are all alive and you are dead, is it worth it? How important is their existence to social progress, and how much is your loss to society when you die? Can you measure? And the most likely outcome is that you all die together, is it worth it?
