when religion is lost

People need faith, psychotherapy, family, work, secularization, eating, drinking, and having fun, can't satisfy us, secularization is not the way out, we always have faith, Nazis, fascism, nationalism, patriotism, all are beliefs in essence, Literary youth, geek culture, etc. are also a kind of belonging, and rock music also has this function. You have no choice but to obey. Christianity and Catholicism are also beliefs, but some are religious organizations. Some are loosely organized, like political parties in America, Protestantism is mostly loosely organized.
Scientology can become a kind of psychotherapy religion, but it got lost, and it encountered a domineering and violent leader, which made many people discover that the joy and fanaticism they once had, and the happiness brought to them by religion, was finally lost. Pain, abuse and disappointment replaced. These witnesses, in any case, they were once addicted to it, and they cannot deny their spiritual pursuit.

To say that it is not a religion would be wrong. After all, it has its own missionary organization. To say that it buys real estate everywhere, its internal finances are chaotic, and this is also a question of good or bad management. You must know that Catholicism was once very degenerate, but there must be people inside who can save it. So in the final analysis, this is a matter of religious organization management.

What interests me is the propaganda strategy he uses with Hollywood stars, which is really powerful. Tom Cruise, Travolta, they're all stars, they're priceless propaganda, and it doesn't matter if the church treats them well. Also, they have so much money. This strategy has been successful.
To say that the leader abuses the believers, the believers accept all kinds of inhuman accusations, all of which they want, and the FBI can't control them. It has nothing to do with whether it is illegal or not. As long as there are no dead people, things like personal freedom are second. The most fearful thing is that the church has political ambitions and tries to change the law. That is the most dangerous.

Premium version of MLM. A little psychological hint of "faith is spiritual", a white male who can speak and is especially good at self-justification and a little charming in speech, plus a group of believers who have spare time, money and "First World Problems", live together.

Very curious why a religion (or a cult...) with such an obvious problem attracts so many sensible people to believe, donate money, and cut ties with their relatives and friends for it. All the interviewed were ex-congregants who had broken away from the church, so if a current believer came out to be interviewed, perhaps it would be better to answer all the questions? However, according to the way of Scientology, it is estimated that the believers who are interviewed will not tell the truth...

Going Clear: Scientology & the Prison of Belief quotes

  • Paul Haggis: I finally get to OT 3 and they give me the secret materials, which I've been hearing about all this time. They're hand written by Hubbard. You'd have to keep them in a locked briefcase, be very cautious because they would always say if this gets out it's dangerous to people. It can actually do them harm if they are not adequately prepared. And I read it and it doesn't make any sense... I think, I remember for one fleeting second thinking well maybe it's an insanity test. Maybe if we believe this they kick you out. You know? Maybe you're insane! That of course is not the case. They talk about, you know, the fact that the earth was created, that such and such of trillions of years ago and this guy, who's this space guy... and put them in volcanoes and then blow them up with A-bombs... And we have these lost souls all over us and we have to get rid of them. And I'm going what the fuck are you talking about? I mean, I'm down for the self-help stuff. I'm down for, ok, I can be clear, I can, you know, I can get rid of those, the negative emotions, but what the fuck is this?

  • Lawrence Wright: Scientology really is a journey into the mind of L. Ron Hubbard and the further you get into it the more like L. Ron Hubbard you become.
