From ET to BFG, Spielberg dreamed more than

When the Cannes Film Festival opened this year, I heard about this film for the first time, and the translation at that time was also called "Dream Blowing Giant". Later, after it was confirmed that it was introduced and released, the translation name was changed to "Dream Realizing Giant".

Well, I like "Blowing Dreams".

Since its release, this film has been receiving a lot of bad reviews. Some people even say that this is the worst Spielberg movie. If you respect Spielberg, then don't watch "Dream Giant".

I'm not so angry, and I don't need to be so angry about the movies I choose to watch. After reading it, my feeling is that the whole is mediocre and weak, but the parts are full of fun. In the core, Spielberg, who likes to dream, is constructing his fairy tale world.

Dreams can be analyzed in many ways. In movies, it can be the illusion of real logic in "Inception", it can be the extremely terrifying nightmare in "Mulholland Drive", or it can be Spielberg's wonderful fairy tale here. Spielberg really likes fairy tale dreams. From ET back then to today's BFG, he has never stopped dreaming. From this point of view, the images of ET and BFG are actually the same.

The whole story of "The Giant of Dreaming" is actually filled in a dream. The little princess Sophie built all this in the dream. Perhaps because of this, the plot has collapsed from the real logic, and even many logical details are used. The "dream" is unreasonable instead, so you're left wondering why the Queen would allow Sophie to go to the Isle of Giants and do such a dangerous thing.

However, even with the unusualness of dream logic to explain the irrationality of the story, the overall dullness remains irreparable. Spielberg took great pleasure in constructing the dream-catching scene, which is gorgeous, bright, and dreamy, but the audience will find that we have seen too many similar scenes over the years, and there is little freshness when watching movies. .

The plot span from Giant Island to the Royal Palace also seems very fragmented, as if it hit you from one dimension to another without warning. Well, this is a dream after all, but for the audience, such a degree of separation is not something that a dream can put off.

Interestingly, the scene after arriving at the palace was quite refreshing. This is the part of the fun that I mentioned earlier. BFG climbed into the palace, giants and humans were seated separately and had a meal together. The humorous contrast between small and large can make people laugh.

Therefore, the situation faced by such a film with Spielberg's label is indeed a bit embarrassing. However, I can't help but think that the fairy tale dream makes the film very different from the climax blockbuster mode we are used to seeing, and it even seems a little younger, so we don't like to watch it, or even don't want to watch it, Does this also explain to some extent that we are a group of audiences who have lost the ability to dream - to have childlike dreams?

In contrast, we may be more willing to see the same story as "Jack the Giant Catcher", where the giant stretched out his hand and grabbed a mouthful of blood, and the human was bitten into two pieces, dripping with blood. Such a scene is certainly exciting, but it is obviously impossible to appear in Spielberg's dream film. You know, the appearance of guns in ET has already made him uncomfortable.

In such a comparison, it is impossible to say that the winner is still Spielberg. There is nothing wrong with dreaming, and there is nothing wrong with more than dreaming. What is wrong is the person who has lost the ability to dream.
