behind the law

"Behind the Truth"
this time, Levi's played a big villain lawyer. The lawyer has an affair with a rich man who loves his wife (apparently only physically) but doesn't respect her because she didn't go to college. The rich man also loves his son very much, and let his son receive the best education. The problem is that the rich man found out that his wife was cheating, and told the lawyer that the divorce would be fine, but the rich man's wife couldn't live without money, so the lawyer had to choose "murder the rich man" to solve the problem. And cleverly designed a "self-defense killing": when the rich man came home, his wife hid in the bathroom, and the thing hurt herself. Then the lawyer kills the rich man in a mask and leaves. The wife then held the handle of the knife with her hand, leaving fingerprints. Then there was domestic violence of the rich, and then his wife was forced to kill him. The problem was discovered by accident. The rich man's son suddenly broke in and took the crime of killing his father for his mother. Become a "suspect" caught by the police on the spot.
Reeves, in his lawsuit for the lover's son, used all his skills: including having a black female assistant sit next to the "suspect" to increase the sympathy score of the tribunal; including deliberately playing stupid and losing to a few steps, like Tian Ji's horse racing Attack, add evidence. In the end, the rich man's son was exonerated on the grounds that his father had been raping him and he had no choice but to kill his father. However, he actually knew that it was the lawyer who killed his father, because he had been thinking and recalling various details, and he remembered the watch left by the lawyer at the scene. But the lawyer has escaped his guilt forever, even though his assistants found the problem and the suspect knew the truth. The lawyer also took advantage of the kindness of the assistant. She knew that the young man did not kill anyone, so even if she found something wrong with the case, she had to continue to help herself.
Of course, the biggest problem I find is that no matter how much evidence the other party has, no matter how strong the evidence is, every piece of evidence has loopholes. As long as you catch the loopholes in the key evidence and give the fatal blow, you can win. The same is true for the confrontation of other things. If you spend energy one by one, you will waste your energy, and it will not help. And in the lost lawsuit, the accidental blow must be discovered, so Levi's has been waiting for the "suspect" to speak and find the key to help him. Because if the suspect confesses his guilt, he can't do anything about it, and it is difficult for the world to forgive the crime of killing his father. If he says he did not kill himself because he is afraid of death, then he can follow the original plan and let his lover "kill in self-defense" to get out of the lawsuit.
What does the story say? The law can be used, because in the end judgment depends on people. And the strong prey on the weak, smart people can do whatever they want. This is American culture. 16.10.31

The Whole Truth quotes

  • Ramsey: At some point, every defense lawyer has to choose between his own need to know the truth and the best interests of his client.

  • [first lines]

Ramsey: [narrating] When the court officer smiled at me on the morning of trial, I knew I was fucked. They weren't taking bets on this one. Mike had killed his father, Boone Lassiter - left his handprint on the knife - confessed.

Ramsey: Half my cases had evidence this bad. I just pled them out, got manslaughter and moved on. But this was Mike, and I'd known him all his life. He was going to college and probably law school, and I doubted his mother could survive him going to the penitentiary.

Ramsey: But I knew Boone, I had that. And I knew enough about the Lassiter household to know that Mike had a defense - if he would just talk to me.
