Violent Pastoral Prose Poem

In fact, to be honest, the movie didn't immerse me very much, and I felt that my emotions were just floating on the surface.
But when I think about it, I actually feel that there are several places that are vaguely beautiful/pity.
I like the part of them in the woods, the tree house, self-sufficient, like a paradise, I especially hope that the bounty hunters don't come, it breaks the peace all of a sudden; when Kit killed Holly's father, it was a pity; I saw Kit killed When I was friends on the farm, I felt his helplessness, but also felt that he had to fight. Interestingly, this heart-wrenching feeling of "have to" is immediately overshadowed by Kit's seemingly casual attitude.
The whole tone of the movie is like that, slow. The two characters also don't write their emotions on their faces, lightly. Despite a lot of violence and chases, there is no sense of urgency at all. The most tense place may be that after Holly's father was beaten to death, you can feel Holly's tangled choices. The narrative of the entire film feels slow, as casual as Kit, and like an idyllic prose poem.
Like they were in the woods before they killed Dad, two people sitting by the river, like a painting; next to the last oil tank, when Kit looked down at Holly, Holly's POV shot should be a movie classic, it seems like it used to be where have you seen it. Looking at the whole thing again, I found that there are many shots in it, especially in large scenes, any random frame is like an oil painting.
Indeed, in the whole film, there are very few close-ups, most of them are medium shots and long shots, and many cut aways render emotions. Such a distant view has eased nervousness. Coupled with music, or smart or ethereal. Plus Holly's narration. Although 7 people died, the whole story looked like a game of two ignorant young children.
I've always disliked characters like gangsters, but Kit, despite being violent, wasn't annoying. On the contrary, because of his single-mindedness towards Holly and some small details, I think he is a little cute. For example, before the elopement, he asked Holly to go back to school to get books, saying that she would not be left to study, such as when he was in the woods With various skills in the woods, the bookstore in the woods has been transformed into a decent home, with lamps on the table and pictures on the walls.
Maybe the next time I watch this movie, I will like it better.

Badlands quotes

  • Holly Sargis: [voice over narration] Then sure enough Dad found out I been running around behind his back. He was madder than I ever seen him. His punishment for deceiving him: he went and shot my dog. He made me take extra music lessons everyday after school, and wait there 'till he came to pick me up. He said that if the piano didn't keep me off the streets, maybe the clarinet would.

  • Father: [to Kit] I don't want you hanging anymore. I don't wanna see you again. Understand?
