"The World in Your Eyes" Film Review 2016.10.24
is a small and fresh love movie. As the beginning of sister Yao's film review career, I think the name fits the occasion. The world in your eyes, everything I put into words, is it not expressing the world in my eyes.
"The World Through Your Eyes" is an American movie that was released in April 2014. The time I watched it was last Saturday, 2016.10.22. After studying for a week, I decided to look for a simple and warm little movie to watch. I saw that it was recommended as a small and fresh love movie on BILIBILI. After reading it, I felt, well, BILIBILI didn't lie to me.
The film is about Rebecca (Zoe Kazan) living in New Hampshire and Dylan (Michael Starr David) living in New Mexico, bound together by a powerful and mysterious force. They live in the north and south of the United States, separated by the entire continental United States. However, they can magically feel each other's existence, and can feel each other's feelings - emotions and even physical feelings, as if there is another person living in their minds.
The actor Dylan is very smart, but he has two bad friends. He has committed theft and is under the surveillance of the police. He will be imprisoned for the slightest movement, and he cannot cross the US border without the permission of the police. Living in a poor and unsatisfactory life, living on a very desolate mountain plain far from town, his tin house is seen several times in the film alone and ruined in the splendid Mexican twilight.
The heroine, Rebecca, lives in the north of the United States, where there are long winters and perpetually dark skies. Rebecca was silent but sensitive. Growing up, she seemed to have suffered so much that she broke down, so much so that she spent months recovering in a psychiatric home further north. Rebecca's husband, Philip, who runs a local hospital, has all the characteristics of a professional, calm, objective, professional; but at the same time, a businessman, prudent for profit. Philip looks like he loves Rebecca, but at the end of the movie puts Rebecca in a mental hospital and forces her to be treated.
Dylan and Rebecca had never known each other's existence before, and they both thought it was just the voice in their head, and they thought there was something wrong with them. It wasn't until one day that they were suddenly able to communicate with each other, and at that moment they realized that the voice in their minds was a person who really existed in this world. From that day on, they communicated all the time and made suggestions for each other's lives. Dylan helped Rebecca fix the car, and Rebecca helped Dylan chase girls. They talked about everything, two people who felt abandoned by the world, because the other party began to love life and became cheerful.
Slowly they infiltrated each other's lives, and slowly they developed a good impression of each other. When Rebecca realizes she's in love with Dylan, she's scared and overwhelmed, because she's married, has a husband who loves her, and Dylan is far away.
Rebecca's changes began to make everyone suspicious. The wives of Philip's colleagues thought that Rebecca was having an affair, while Philip suspected that Rebecca was sick again, and asked a psychiatrist to observe Rebecca secretly. A very distressed Rebecca finally made up her mind to say goodbye to Dylan and hope to return to a normal life. Rebecca confesses to Dylan on the ski slope where they first felt each other. Retaining the unsuccessful Dylan returned to the tin house, the sunset was just right.
"It's like a life that is colorful and colorful at every moment, and suddenly returns to the dull, no, it is dull. Every moment, every moment you can realize, is like an old iron gate, creaking in a clear and windless evening. Sounds, but nothing can hear its life, not even itself. This is, my life after you left." This is a passage written at the time.
After leaving Dylan, Rebecca was secretly imprisoned by Philip in a mental sanatorium, and Dylan's life was like a backwater. Maybe it's because the other person's pain is too strong. Dylan saw Rebecca's current situation without Rebecca's call. Although he was still under surveillance, Dylan resolutely got on the plane and went to find Rebecca. Together they negotiate an escape plan, and Dylan even grabs a car at the airport. Rebecca secretly went into hiding and, under Dylan's direction, used a spoon to pry open the door to her room. In the end, Dylan is chased by the police and Rebecca is chased by the paramedics, but fortunately, they meet in the forest, jump on the train together, and kiss like the rest of their lives at the end of the movie.
The movie ends here. I have always believed that in this world, everyone is waiting for another person. Maybe you have not met, but when you meet, you will understand that everything in the past, whether sad or lonely, All for the sake of meeting each other.
