Will you choose to help the innocent?

After the war, the women who were collectively ravaged by German and Soviet soldiers—the biggest problem, were the nuns, welcomed one child after another. Originally, some of them could not accept the fact, fear, remorse, and fear that they would be cursed. Younger and more enlightened, it will be better. Since God has not prevented nightmares from happening, at least be happy to welcome the arrival of new life. I think they are very strong, a total of three waves of ravages. They can't tell the outside world, because it's a shame, it will also bring the closure of the monastery, and more seriously speculate that these nuns who were expelled may die because of discrimination by outsiders. It's easy to go mad to be self-sufficient in a poor monastery and keep secrets.

The abbot suffered the most damage. She was infected with syphilis and had to receive drug treatment for a long time. She was not only tortured physically, but also had to keep her faith mentally. Moreover, she was the one who took the lead and was responsible for everyone in the monastery. It is conceivable that she was under a lot of pressure. However, her practice of abandoning the newborn in the snow was discovered by the young nun. She was powerless to resist but could not find the child. The girl who finally accepted the reality and had a glimmer of hope was also pregnant with her own child, hoping that the new life would grow up vigorously, but she could not help the child with all her strength, so she collapsed and committed suicide by jumping off the building. This event became the turning point of the story.

Even if civilian women are raped, they will have different reactions. Some people will deeply blame themselves, and some people will think they have been bitten by a dog. What's more, the client is a gang of nuns? It is understandable that the abbot did such extreme actions for a reason, but the child was innocent, and her actions amounted to murder. A clergyman doing such a thing!

The heroine, a young doctor of the French Red Cross who was sent to the local (Poland), accidentally learned of such a situation. She wanted to keep the secrets for the nuns and wanted to help them very much. A person's ability is limited, and it is not easy for her to keep secrets and be reprimanded by superiors. He was almost raped by Soviet soldiers on his way home at night. After such a thing, she can understand the pain of the nuns better. I want to do my best to help them. People who watch it, like me, think so too. The nuns and these newborn children are innocent, they did nothing wrong, and if society were to condemn them, it would at most say why they didn't die on the spot.

The heroine develops trust and friendship with Maria, the second head of the convent, and also wins the trust of the other nuns. In the end, thanks to the heroine's ingenuity, the nuns adopted the war orphans on the street, so that there were little babies in the monastery. Although the heroine's work was over and she was ordered to leave Poland, the nuns got through the difficult time with her advice, and they took a group photo and wrote to her to express their gratitude. Very impressed to see it at the end.

PS: Although the story is a bit heavy, the nuns' singing is very pure and nice.
PPS: After watching this film, I really don't want to be a nun (it was originally one of the N choices in the future), I want to be the heroine who helps the nun. Because being a nun makes it easy to become narrow-minded.

The Innocents quotes

  • Maria: You know, faith. At first, We're like a child that his father holds by his hand, who feels safe. A moment comes and I think he always comes where the father will let you go. We're lost, alone in the dark. We call, nobody answers. We're getting ready, we're surprised. We're hit in the heart. That's the cross. Behind all joy, there is the cross.

  • Maria: Dear Mathilde, the dark clouds have been hunted. We have here the sun in the sky. And you are in our hearts. Other wars may come. Other dangers threaten us, it will soon be difficult to write to us. But whatever our fate is, I feel ready to face it. I know, even if it makes you laugh, God sent you. Let him accompany you through the trials and that joy never misses you. Yours, Maria.
