Love is not the only thing in life

"Shelly" is an unconventional love affair. A 19-year-old boy, Xie Li, who is in full bloom, and a 50-year-old prostitute with a half-old milf and her charm, have an accidental love affair between the two. But the age gap is too big, and it is destined that the two cannot go further. For Shirley, it was the age of longing for love, and he grew up with his mother who was a prostitute, so the love in his mind may be lingering, intimate physical contact, and nothing more. I think his subtle view of love is unreasonable.
For the empty, lonely and cold old prostitute, it is not easy to meet such true love in this life, so I put in the most real feelings.
The entire movie is not long, and most of the shots of the two are lingering in bed. After six years of lingering, Shirley, a boy who is already a 25-year-old man, can't devote all his love to his wife. When he came back from his honeymoon trip, he kept wandering in front of the old woman's house, not even going home.
And this old woman was also in great pain after leaving Shelly. When Shelly married another woman, the picture of her alone in the empty room was heart-wrenching, crying Shirley's name and burst into tears. Later, when someone pursued her, she could no longer accept men as easily as before.
[Crying] All love has only two endings, either staying together until old age, or painful separation. The difference is that some people can quickly get rid of the pain, while some people can not accept other love for life. That's what Shelley said, in the final story monologue, that he took a gun and shot himself.
I think love is not the only thing in life, but you have to go through a period of unforgettable love in order to have no regrets in life.

Chéri quotes

  • [last lines]

Narrator: He was unable to suppress a sense that he had been able to escape from something. That he was a free man again. A feeling he eventually came to realize was entirely misguided. It was many years before he understood that both of them had been quite unjustly punished. Léa for being born so many years before him, and Chéri for having failed to grasp that Léa was the only woman he would ever be able to love. And once he was settled in his mind that this was the case, he took out his old service revolver, and put a bullet in his brain.

  • Lea de Lonval: You came back here and you found an old woman. Yes, you found an old woman. Don't cry. Why are you crying? I'm so grateful to you. Were you really in love with me? Did you really think I was such a good person? If I had been a truly good person, I'd have made a man of you instead of thinking of nothing but your pleasure and my happiness. I wouldn't have kept you all to myself. Look at me. You're right. The qualities you lack, I expect it is my fault. But 30 years of easy living does make you very vulnerable. So no, I never did talk to you about the future. Forgive me. I loved you as if we were going to die the same day. I carried you in my heart for such a long time. I forgot you were going to have to carry your own burdens. A young wife. Perhaps even a child. And so you're going to suffer. You're going to miss me. And you're going to have to try to find enough wisdom and tolerance not to cause suffering to others. The thing is, now you've had a taste of youth. It's never satisfying, but you'll always want to go back for more. You must go. I love you. But it's too late. So get dressed. And go away now.
