On the whole, this film is relatively depressing and sad. Except for the imagination about love and sex, the atmosphere is lively and sunny, the whole film is full of unspeakable loneliness and despair.
I think the protagonist Hank is a marginal person with mental problems, who is often rejected, indifferent, and not understood in society. Corpse Manny doesn't really exist, he's just another repressed personality of Hank. This personality is omnipotent and can do what he wants and cannot do without any scruples, such as constantly farting in public, pursuing what he loves, and possessing various functions. This isolated island is also the social environment Hank is in. Only in Hank's fantasy, this unacceptable personality can truly be himself. The dialogue between the two of them is the spiritual communication of the two personalities.
This movie can be seen as a redemption of self. When Hank wanted to commit suicide, another personality in his heart was telling him to face himself and his true and lonely life.
Hank is cowardly and closed, while Manny is brave, enthusiastic, and daring to pursue. These are just two different sides of the protagonist's personality.
At the end of the film, Hank farts in front of everyone, followed by a series of farts from the corpse. This is the freedom and release of the repressed personality, and it is also a mockery of this indifferent and ruthless world.
