It's been a long time since I watched the work of this American indie film freak. This film composed of four short stories is more like a show of personal acting skills of powerful actors, but unfortunately each of them only has less than 20 minutes of clips. What impressed me the most was the two old veterans Danny DeVito and Ellen Burstyn, especially the latter, whose only few lines were enough to portray a withdrawn, acerbic, and pitiful old lady quite accurately. Director Todd Solondz's eccentric style still leaves no stone unturned in his lines, full of intense black humor, and caustic satire and political inaccuracy are still his favorite themes. What's more, the first paragraph of Debussy's piano score and the dog's feces collide with extremely absurd comedy.
