Chicago is satirizing the social mechanism, the entertainment industry, and the ubiquitous ugly faces of human beings. The singing and dancing are brilliant, as if the dancing limbs are exaggerated sarcasm. And this Jazz Spring and Autumn, which had a huge impact on Chicago, is more focused on personal painful experience, that is, the fear of death. Symbols tend to be obscure and often personal, but if you sing it out, or jump out, as in this movie, it's simply witty and profound. A short and splendid life, desperate for nothing.

In addition to singing and dancing (mainly dancing, the music is really bad), the whole film is just repeated fear of death. And the fear is very hollow and monotonous. The complexity of the show is only blunt and superficial. In terms of the chaos of an artist's life, it is far less than "Velvet Goldmine" and "The Doors". The shooting technique is ok, a lot of smash cuts, although a bit dazzling, it's still clear. In terms of overall level, music, and depth, it is still far from "Chicago".

All That Jazz quotes

  • [repeated line]

Joe Gideon: Don't bullshit a bullshitter.

  • Davis Newman: There's a lady in Chicago, man, wrote a book - Dr Kübler-Ross, with a dash. This chick, man, without the benefit of dying herself, has broken down the process of dying into five stages: anger, denial, bargaining, depression and acceptance. Sounds like a Jewish law firm. 'Good morning, Anger denial bargaining depression acceptance!'.
