Good View Cuban Soul

The music documentary that made me cry, it's not easy to make a good documentary, but buena vista social club did it. It made me believe again in the power of records and the power of reality.

The structure of the film is simple, combining footage of the band's performances with interviews with several key members. Playing music and telling stories at the same time, I don't know if the music touched me, or the stories touched me, maybe both.

Facing the country of Cuba, I always have complex emotions in my heart. As a Spanish learner, I have a natural affinity for Spanish culture. The experience of living in Mexico has made me feel more intimate with the culture of the Caribbean. But I have not been to Cuba, Cuba is different, different from any other country, because they still stubbornly believe in a dream, and this belief makes time stand still.

At the end of the film, the band finally had the opportunity to perform at the Carnagie Theater in New York. Several old people were excitedly walking around the streets of New York, on the Empire State Building, and in front of shop windows, observing this and them like a child. Adjacent, but a completely different country, this is a completely unfamiliar world, their joy is indescribable, and their figures are also incompatible with the prosperity of New York.

The final shot is back to Havana, Marigon is still the same as always, beaten by the waves, the r of Karl Marx has fallen on the wall, creemos en los sueños (we believe in dreams), these old musicians, after experiencing the dream internship, Dreams are shattered, dreams are rekindled...

Imagine that in your life you will only do one thing, you will only do this thing, and you only want to do it well. Maybe it doesn't make a living for you, your big family needs you to support, you have countless thoughts of giving up, or you have already given up. You can never imagine that this is the thing that put you on the stage of Carnagie and made countless souls cry.

So when I saw the buena vista social club finally complete my performance and the audience burst into thunderous applause and cheers, what I believed in, maybe fifty years, maybe seventy years, a belief, a dream, was Admit it! What kind of joy and satisfaction is that? !

This is an era when we no longer talk about dreams and beliefs, and no one spends their entire lives to fulfill a dream. This is a world without greatness.

"We learned to resist, we learned to resist the good, and we learned to resist the bad," Ibrahim said.

This is Cuba, its stubbornness, its purity. Maybe it's poor, but Cubans love this land deeply, it gives them talent, and what makes Cuban art so unique is because it's a country that is fighting against time and the world.

After watching the movie, I realized that many of my favorite songs that I had heard before were written by the musicians in the movie. Especially Ibrahim and Omara and ruben the pianist, I've been struck by them more than once, before I knew their story. This is good music that hits the heart. It is this kind of music that makes too many other popular music feel ashamed, full of soul, good because it can fill your soul, and such good music must be created by a noble soul.

Watching them play, it's like enjoying, everyone is devoted, everyone is immersed in it, they are in the world of music, play, communicate, create a unique world of their own, good artists, all create a world of their own world. I saw their joys, sorrows, and sorrows, and saw their sufferings. Everything, everything in life, is in this music.

I still remember the kids on the gymnastics team surrounding Ruben's piano, their bodies swaying to the music, maybe that's what music was meant to be.

There are many scenes of Havana in 1998 in the film. Cuba has always been a paradise for photography lovers, and buena vista means good scene in Spanish, good scene Cuba, I don’t know if Cuba is different now, but it is certain that, It's still beautiful. I don't know how Cuba will change, the world is always changing, but I believe that at least the Cuba in my mind will always be:

good times, Cuba, happy souls

, blessings to Cuba, and all the arts born in Cuba
