The life of the people at the bottom of the United States, an ordinary girl who is oppressed by life and suffers too much, winter's bone, family's backbone.
The teardrop is great, from the beginning to avoid it to come forward. The warmth of affection can be better reflected from the cold person.
One detail I have to say is that women in the movie have to obtain the consent of the man before making a decision, and even talk to the man through the woman first. When Ree was beaten, only women did it, and it was women who took her to find the body. Even only willing to adopt a younger brother, not a younger sister. Allusions to a naked patriarchal society and serious inequality between men and women.
Ree's good friend has been reduced from a free and easy girl to a low-key child's mother. Under Ree's teaching, she left her previous "home" and found herself. Facing the mess left behind by the departure of his father who should be the mainstay, Ree, who takes care of his family, is also making a strong resistance. Ree is not afraid of difficulties and challenges, and supports the whole family. Her victory through hardships should be said to be a victory against patriarchy.
A cold and tender film. Some places need equality far more than we do, and presumably like to show off what is lacking.
