Impressive water pattern

I was prepared to be bored, but the results of trying Tarkovsky for the first time were acceptable. The story is simple, brutal war. This theme is very inconsistent with the rise of the movie. Ivan's childhood became a hellish nightmare because of the war, and Ivan also packed a demonized soul in the skin of a child. Several scenes are very impressive, especially the water patterns under black and white light and shadow, the sparkling well water and sea water in the sun in the dream, and the ghostly habitat against the background of the river when the darkness and light meet at dawn (I guess). The general woods are really scary.

Tarkovsky's realism has a strong sense of form: only it is based on pure realism, it is dark enough to avoid any possibility of heroism; only it uses messy dreams, poetic photography, complicated The dazzling techniques such as long-lens scheduling, negative film and sound and picture separation are the forms, which are enough to be somber and let the audience experience the cruel despair that is breathless. The kiss of the birch forest makes me cry out to God.

Ivan's Childhood quotes

  • Ivan's Mother: If a well is really deep, you can see a star down there even in the middle of a sunny day.

  • Ivan: Is he a Fritz too?

Galtsev: He's either a German doctor or writer.

Ivan: They have no writers. I saw them burning books in a square. They poured gasoline on them and set them on fire. There was soot in the air for a week.

Galtsev: That writer lived 400 years ago.

    Ivan: Well, then maybe.
