Road comedy on the muddy road

The whole film uses a warm and healing child protagonist, with a playful soundtrack and charming New Zealand scenery, telling the story of the bear child and the rough man at the end of the muddy jungle. The director uses chapter style to divide the story into many interesting sections. It is different from simply retelling the actor's lines, but condensing a cool and humorous style, reflecting sentimentally from laughter.

The director especially uses visual language, and often makes you smile in unexpected places, but it feels nonsensical. For example, when Ricky was resting at the girl's house on horseback, the two sang and sang warmly on the sofa. When you were touched by the warm atmosphere of the two, suddenly the girl's father joined the singing. The camera turned around and the father was here all the time. Similarly, after Ricky reads a poem to Hec, Hec looks up and says "Good night, Sam". It turned out that the madman Sam had always been there. The director is probably a tough guy who is particularly unwilling to show his inner softness. Whenever he is emotionally fragile, he must use cold humor to shift away.

In addition to cold humor, rich and exaggerated drama is also one of the highlights of the film. The most absurd is the nationwide search, which directly affects and promotes the development of the plot. The comedy intensity demonstrated by it is not insignificant, aside from the traditional Concept, unreality is not close to actual performance, but it links the plot together very well. As a comedy movie, at least in my opinion, some exaggerated plots are handled just right, and that kind of madness is understandable.

In terms of character setting, I personally like the character Sam in it too much. He is familiar with the laws of the jungle, but cannot adapt to the rules of the society. He is crazy for a long time and occasionally genius. When I finally escaped, I remembered: My escape tunnel has not been excavated yet, what have I done in my life, or pretend to be dead. He who lives in the deep forest because he doesn't want to be a table machine in the world has a hint of "the world laughs at me too crazy, I laugh at others and can't see through".

More importantly, under the appearance of the ghost-horse elves who are pursuing free and unruly characters, the director used cold humor to question the serious question of "who is the real barbarian". "What is barbarism? Is it barbarism to break away from the rules of those in power? What is civilization? Is harmony maintained by lies a civilization?"

From the perspective of the so-called civilized world, "illiterate uncles, spoof bear children" are all "barbarians", "women who don't give up a child welfare agency, policemen dispatching tanks" wait for them to be "Civilized man". In this embarrassing dodge, some philosophical implications began to be revealed. Rather than "barbarians" fleeing, it is better to say that they are guarding, defending some of the warmth in their hearts, and resisting the barbaric encroachment of "civilized people".
