This is a Turkish/German/French/Karra co-produced film, reflecting the different encounters of five sisters in the Turkish countryside under the constraints of traditional morality.
The actors performed well, showing the differences in the characters of the five sisters, which in turn led to different endings of the story. It depends on the beautiful women coming. Turkey/Greece is located at the junction of the Eurasian continent. The fusion of races has given birth to a large number of beautiful women.
The movie lens is sharp, and the detailed description can smell the conflict between tradition and modernity, telling people that having modern equipment does not mean having modern civilization. The various close-ups of the heroine by the camera render the diverse inner world of a 12-year-old girl. The overall rhythm of the film is very good, but the final victory and escape seems too bland. Even if it is a literary film, what is the climax of a commercial film. Perhaps the director wants to tell us that those sins in the name of holiness are still going on. The film was nominated for an Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film that year, but unfortunately lost to Son of Saul.
Turkey is an Islamic country. My first understanding of Muslim women was in the villain book, a PLO woman holding an AK47, covered in black robes, and only showing a pair of hateful eyes against Israel. Later, I learned that the Islamic world is an extremely patriarchal society. Women must wear black robes and headscarves when going out. They are not allowed to talk to men, go to work, or drive. It's not that virgins can't get married, widows will be beaten to death for cheating, and what's even more cruel is that girls are circumcised in some places. This is a Muslim woman, a sad Muslim woman.
Turkey, where the story takes place, is the closest Islamic country to the West. In the film, we can still see strong traditional dross. Looking back on history, Islam once led the world civilization, but unfortunately, today it has been left behind by Christian civilization and Chinese civilization.
