Why is "Saw V" not exciting enough? ——A brief comment on the "Saw" series

At the rate of one for five consecutive years, the "Saw" series has swept the box office market of thriller movies. The sixth book to be released in 2009, even before the script and actors have been determined, he dared to lock in the Halloween schedule. Saw's confidence is evident.

When I first watched "Saw", I was deeply impressed by its ingenious concept, and I always recommend such a classic to others. But every time they hear the words "saw horror", others will mistake it for "chainsaw murderer" and sneer. This makes me really scream for Saw.

Of course, with the great success of the first small-cost production, in order to further pursue the commercial elements of the thriller movie, this series has indeed greatly increased the bloody level, attracting thriller fans with a variety of "game" gimmicks Eyeballs. But even so, the first three powerful scripts still left a deep impression on me.

However, after watching "Saw V", I can't help feeling, it seems that this one is not as exciting as before.

Why is the fifth part not exciting enough? We can review why the first few movies are wonderful.

The first part: the classic super unexpected ending. The true identity of Jigsaw has become the biggest suspense in the entire film. The suspects in rounds were ruled out of suspicion time and time again. The unexpectedness of the final three-minute ending makes the movie reach an incredible climax, which is very impressive. This is also the only work in the review that has not leaked the bottom line. Those who have not read it must not miss such a classic.

The second part: Time tricks. You must be surprised when you finally find that the person you were looking for has been not far away, because the time axis in the monitor and the observer's time axis are staggered. This foreshadowing was revealed at the end, and the effect of "far in the sky, close in front" formed a very strong impact, which is the so-called "narrative trick." Coupled with the reveal of Amanda's identity in the eight-player game, the reversal ending makes the second part also very exciting.

The third part: Amanda game. The film uses a lot of puns, such as the dialogue between Lynn and her boyfriend at the beginning of the film, such as the whole movie Jigsaw’s indoctrination, are very confusing smoke screens, so that everyone finally revealed the intersection of the forgiveness game and the Amanda game. Will be very surprised. This "narrative trick" is the most among several. Moreover, the theme of "salvation and forgiveness" is very prominent and has a deeper meaning than the previous two.

The fourth part: From this one, the Saw series has become a complex series, and the relationship between the several parts is gradually expanded. To say the most exciting place, it should be the "flashback" narrative technique. Through this narrative, when we discover at the end of the movie that the original Rigg game and the forgiveness game of "Saw III" are proceeding simultaneously, we must first be puzzled and then suddenly realized, so that Jigsaw's last words at the beginning of the film can be justified.

In this way, it is obvious why the first four movies are wonderful: because the movie has an unexpected reversal ending! It's because of the incredible sense of surprise!

Looking back at the fifth part below, is there any plot that surprised us?
I think the only place with some small surprises is the pun of "Five become one". When the real purpose of the final game is explained, the audience understands the intention of Jigsaw. But this has not reached the level of "surprise", and even lacks the feeling of "suddenly realized". In addition, it seems that there is nothing unexpected in the fifth part. The anticlimactic five-player game and the expected Stoudemire game cannot satisfy the audience's desire for a "exciting ending". And the more serious problem is that the two main stories of SawV are completely unrelated, which makes the movie bluntly split into two parts, giving people the feeling of "time is not enough, games come together".

It can also be seen from the above analysis that after a few movies, Saw has given us fewer and fewer surprises, but more and more complicated character relationships and endless foreshadowings. In terms of inequality, I think the level of this series is: 1>2=3>4=5. If Saw's original features are lost, I'm afraid this series will eventually degenerate into a low-level violent horror film made of pure blood.

Of course, the success of "Saw V" cannot be ignored. It has a very strong complete logical relationship between the time and characters of the Saw series, which is a good summary and turning point. Saw fans stay tuned for how the direction of the next one will develop. I just hope that the producer can first establish a good script and then start filming, instead of pursuing bloody horror to rush to work. I believe that the ending of this sixth part will give us extra surprises and excitement.
