Satis House, Satis Manor. Where Pip meets Estella. Little Pip asked whether the word E came from Greek, Latin or what, and replied that Satis means "Enough" in Greek, Latin or Hebrew, which is enough.
Enough manor. What a strange name. Little E, wearing a purple dress, jumped like a wishing elf, and asked worrylessly what the owner of this manor had, which made him feel Enough.
Again, the word appears quite a few times in the movie. When Magwitch was not far from being hanged in his prison bed, he said that because dear boy, that's enough. Joey the blacksmith paid off Pip's debt, left a note in clumsy handwriting, and hugged his new wife on the grass wearing iron While circling the ring, he said it's ehough.
I always feel that all novels or every touching story have one constant: growth. This is each person's own experience, internalized or extroverted, implicit or explicit, all of which belong to their own unique process. Pip has grown from a restrained, outspoken boy in the manor to a once lost, vain, irascible boy, to a brave, composed, compassionate man. Kindness was always with him, compassion was always shining in him, until Magwitch reappeared in his life as a turning point, and he finally became a noble man shining with the radiance of humanity. I am always attracted to the kindness and compassion in a person, which means that he is willing to understand everyone's sorrow, willing to share everyone's pain, and sincerely rejoice in everyone's joy.
In the little boy in front of the cemetery, I saw his kindness and cowardice intertwined; when facing the neurotic Aunt May, he avoided his eyes but said honest answers; when facing Magwitch, he discussed with his friends about trying Escape from Magwitch's grip, worrying about the safety of the murderer who risked being hanged and coming back to see him as his son. He has always been contradictory before facing the fate of being manipulated. The empathy and timidity reflected in him are in stark contrast, which makes you feel real, but also makes you feel that he doesn't seem to be worthy of those lucky, he deserves it. Can't get the admiration of the goddess, and even joke that it is no wonder that she will fall in love with a woman who does this.
In the second half of the story, Magwitch's return to England leads to the discovery that he has already been caught in a net made up by others. He has no choice but to accept. Mistakenly thought that luck favored, in fact, has already paid the price of freedom. And he followed kindness, did not lose Joey's friendship, gained a heartfelt heart, and had a close friend. On his flight out of London, he was in the boat among the reeds, and at dusk he read to Magwitch. This lifelong wandering, ups and downs murderer calmly looked at the gentleman he built with his own hands, the expression on his face was "enough".
Estella, brought up by Miss Havishamas. Beautiful and arrogant, she is the culmination of all pretentiousness, and her mission is to "harvest the boy's heart", but with a hint of involuntary sincerity, she repeatedly tells Pip to stay away from her. She and Miss Havishamas lived in the Satisfaction Manor since childhood. The heartless ice beauty, Little E, was surrounded by love but didn't know it. Miss Havishamas had a satisfying love in her best years. abandon. These two women live in an "Enough Manor", which is probably the most ironic place in the story.
The ending of the movie is too perfect. Estella is a little too lucky, she has done nothing, has a beauty bestowed by God, was adopted but her parents have always loved her, Miss Havishamas gave her good upbringing, etiquette and wealth. There was another young man who loved her almost religiously and told her "You are in the river, the sails of ships, the sea, the clouds, the stones of London." Did she die? I don't think so. When she had a choice, she married "Wang Sicong" of the British Empire, and ended up staying with Pip for a long time with wealth and a beautiful face. The ending of the novel is that her marriage was unhappy and tortured, and she was a widow for more than ten years before she met her old friend again.
My favorite person is Joey the blacksmith. He married the most fierce wife, brought up gentleman's younger brother, drank the strongest wine, continued gentle strings, and knew the most primitive happiness and enough.
What kind of owner would name the manor Satis House where he lives? What has he experienced, what has he possessed that makes him feel that every day in the world is content and peaceful? Or did he have nothing and built a Satis utopia?
A moving line at the end:
Pip: "Out of my thoughts? You are in every thought. You're part of my existence. Part of me. You are in every thought, in every line I have ever read since I first came here. You are in the river, the sails of ships, the sea, the clouds, the stones of London. Until the last hours of my life, you will remain in me. Part of the little good, part of the evil. And I will always think of the good."
Forget you? Every memory of mine is about you, you are a part of my existence, a part of my body, every thought of mine is about you, and every line of the book I read is about you, you are continuous The river, the sails in the wind, the sea, the clouds, the rock that built the city of London, you will not be separated from me until the last moment when the fire of my life burns out. You are my good side and my evil side, but I will always remember the good you.
