"Empire of the Sun" refers to the United Kingdom. The former "Empire of the Sun Never Sets". There are British colonies on every inch of the world where the sun shines. This film is only named because it implicitly means The decline of colonialism.
A British expatriate is weak and helpless in the war, and can only rely on his own strength to survive. The tone of the film is humanity and anti-war. If you put aside the perspective of nationalism and look at it purely from the point of view of pure movies, I think this is a first-class film with excellent performance, director and props.
