"Soul Broken Blue Bridge", a film from a long, long time ago. I revisited it a few days ago. At the end, Vivien Leigh was still walking faster and faster against the roaring military trucks on the Waterloo Bridge. Empty and confused to firm and decisive interpretation shocked. So, very hypocritical, I want to write something for this classic. To be honest, the plot of "Blue Bridge of Soul Broken" is a bit cliché. The film takes World War II as the prelude, and the memory of the hero Loy brings people back to London during World War I, witnessing a period between him and Mara. To sum up, it is nothing more than love at first sight, falling in love, sudden change of situation, right and wrong, separation between heaven and man, and regret for life, just like the love stories of many talents and beauties in ancient China. However, this slightly cliché plot has successfully controlled my emotions, joy and sadness, hope and despair, firmness and hesitation... After watching the whole film, I can only use a word that has been abused by countless people. To describe - tangled.

Leaving other things aside, the title of "Soul Broken Blue Bridge" is as poignant and beautiful as a poem and one word. It is easily reminiscent of an ancient Chinese folk story - during the Warring States Period, Lu Ren Weisheng had a date with a girl under the bridge. The water of the swirling river rose but the girl did not arrive. Su Shi's "Nangezi" also has the sentence "Where can I find Yunying on the blue bridge? Only passionate flowing water accompanies people". It can be seen that love in the world is all the same, and there is no difference between ancient and modern Chinese and foreign.

"The so-called tragedy is to destroy beautiful things for others to see", this sentence is really appropriate for Mara. From the innocent and sweet ballet girl to the shabby street girl, there is a world of difference, even people who have nothing to do with it, can't help but sigh with sadness. Some people think that Mara's fall was forced by life, but I think that her fall was due to her guilt for her good friend Katie, and her heart ashes after learning of Roy's "death".

There is no doubt that Katie is a selfless to great and noble friend. She lost her job as a ballerina for protecting Mara, and she fell into the dilemma of life with Mara, and later learned of Roy's "death" in Mara. After being overwhelmed and falling ill, he gave up his dignity and sold his virginity in exchange for money to buy medicine and food for Mara. This kind of sacrifice is not something everyone can make. When Mara discovered all of this by accident, she could not remain indifferent, and could no longer be a pure and innocent princess who was ignorant of the world, and continued to enjoy the care of her friends with peace of mind. Her heart, the moment Katie made her sacrifice for her, took on a heavy cross. She thought, as a consolation to Katie, she should have fought alongside Katie.

Most importantly, the only belief that supported Mara's holy and optimistic life had long since collapsed. Roy, the man who suddenly entered her world, gave her happiness like fireworks, and then left in a hurry, she thought he was dead and would never come back. Since the most important person in life is no longer there, what is there to care about? Except for Roy, all men in the world are the same in Mara's heart. Without Roy, chastity would mean nothing to her, because she never thought about being with anyone but Roy for life. Well, she might as well save herself and Katie from wartime hunger and poverty with the only capital she has at the moment. Mara's fall begins here.

However, fate often loves to play tricks on people. It often reaches out without warning, sows the seeds of tragedy, smiles secretly, and waits for the day when it will blossom and bear fruit. Mara's biggest tragedy is that, after being trapped in a filthy quagmire, the former lover, the best witness of that innocent era, Roy, has returned. Roy's return has awakened Mara's pure heart again, but her unclean experience was engraved on her body, branded on her heart, and lingering. She had no choice but to die.

Perhaps, some people would say that Mara should confess to Roy and seek his understanding. After all, she couldn't help herself. Besides, with Roy's love for her, they might have a happy ending. However, I understand, or I think I understand Mara's psychology at that time-because she loves Roy so much, she hopes that she is perfect in Roy's mind, but she herself knows that she is not perfect, even worse. She worries that past unclean experiences will desecrate their sacred and beautiful love. She was afraid that when Roy found out about her past, he would be disappointed, or even despise her.

I can't guess what Marla was thinking as she dashed resolutely towards the roaring military truck. She not only left her life on the Waterloo Bridge, but also buried her love, faith and soul on this bridge, which is an indisputable fact. In fact, this is not a bad ending. At the very least, we don't have to see Roy's struggle, and we don't have to see Mara's remorse. Love is frozen in its original beauty. This can be regarded as a kind of compassion.

I don't know what it was like when Lowe stood on Waterloo Bridge and remembered Marla. I always stubbornly believed that Roy, he should regret it. He regretted the impulsive confession when he first met, stared deep into his eyes and his heart was rippling. Because, if you have never met him, or, after a hurried encounter, each finds his own direction, and if there is no further intersection, Mara should still be the ballet girl who is as bright and sweet as a spring flower. Well, Chu waist is slender, dancing gracefully, pure and beautiful, not like ordinary people. I can't help but sigh again - if life is just as first seen.

Always stubbornly believed that when Mara and Roy met for the first time, they should both turn around and forget each other in the vast sea of people. After all, in the ups and downs of the torrent of time, everything is often unable to withstand the boil of the world. There are changes in everything, and you can guess the beginning of the story, but often you can't predict the final ending. Whether it is Roy and Mara, or us in real life, there is no way to escape, the hand of destiny that turns clouds and rains after the world.

The real classic movie is by no means word of mouth, and then follow the trend of B, but even after so many times, it still seems to people to love it from the heart and praise it. This film is really a classic, and Vivien Leigh's performance is shocking and unforgettable. Especially the various emotions contained in the eyes from her extremely charming big eyes (rather than the big eyes but godless like many actresses nowadays), shyness, sweetness, happiness, despair and despair.

"Affectionateness is a tragedy that needs to be read in terms of death."

Waterloo Bridge quotes

  • Roy Cronin: Myra - why you little gadabout. What are you doing prowling around at this hour?

  • Roy Cronin: I knew I wouldn't sleep so I've been walking in the garden, confiding my good luck to the stars.

    Myra Lester: Were they pleased?

Roy Cronin: No, they seemed indifferent. They went on glittering, the little exhibitionists!
