No desire and no desire can be indestructible

The movie Hurricane is based on a true story.

Reuben Carter, a black child, started a total of 30 years of prison life because he offended a big man at the time when he was 11 years old. The first time he was imprisoned was because he cut a big shot with a knife in self-defense. At that time, Ruben was only an 11-year-old child, so he was sent to a juvenile detention center, and thus began a nightmare career. In the juvenile management center, he learned to use his fists to solve problems, and fighting and killing is the normal state of life. At the age of 16, he escaped from the juvenile detention center and joined the army. The trajectory of his life began to change. Here he understands that force and knowledge are the tools to protect himself. While cultivating his physical strength, he has learned a lot of knowledge, but it is a pity that he has a good life. It didn't take long before he was arrested again, this time in jail.

In prison, he refused to be like everyone else. His heart is full of hatred, he hates everyone, in the process of his growth, he has not been treated kindly, and he has been wronged many times. This hatred of others and the world is his strength to survive in prison. He practiced boxing and exercise day and night here, venting all his hatred in the exercise, and finally turned into muscles all over his body.

After he came out of prison, he became a boxer, and the crazy training in prison made his boxing unstoppable, so he became a boxing champion. In the 1960s, it was the peak of racial discrimination in the United States. The contradiction between whites and blacks was on the verge of breaking out. At this time, a bar was violently attacked by two blacks, resulting in 3 deaths. And Ruben, because of an accident, had an accidental intersection with the incident at the time. He was arrested again and sentenced to life imprisonment under the pressure of the police and the court.

He is innocent, but no one listens to his complaint, not to mention that there is a big man who wants to harass him on purpose. He stayed in jail until the age of 50, until someone helped find relevant evidence and appealed to the federal court and was acquitted.

When he entered prison for the second time, he was full of hope for the appeal at first, thinking that he had a chance to get out of prison, but the appeal was rejected again and again. In despair, he gave up hope and divorced his wife. The reason for the divorce, on the one hand, is that he does not want to implicate his wife, and on the other hand, because if he does not cut off the contact with the outside world, he will have concerns. Once he has concerns, he will also have weaknesses. In prison, he will have weaknesses. , will not survive, miss will drive a person crazy, worry will make a person weak.

He said that only by having no desires and no desires can make oneself indestructible. Finally he did. Every day when others sleep, he gets up to read or write, and when others get up, he sleeps. The things that kept him alive in prison were writing and reading. Reading is a magical thing. It can take you into other people's worlds, spend time, and bring you different experiences and ideas in the process. In this world, the most beautiful thing should be reading, cheap and beautiful.

Because there is no concern, so his will is very strong. He is like a walking dead, with only reading, writing and eating and drinking in his life, and of course that's the only thing he can have in prison. Beyond these, the only thing he has is hate, hatred of the world, hatred of others.

Sometimes hate is more powerful than love. Love can't make a person do what hate can. In prison, love can't keep Reuben alive, but hate can. Because of hatred, he always has a distance from this world, and because of this, he protects himself in prison.

At the beginning of life, we are all the same, the same ignorant, ignorant and lovely. However, in the process of growing up, different experiences constitute our different life backgrounds, and these background colors make us different people. These are all out of the need to protect ourselves.

There used to be a friend who always said that he was too greedy and wanted to quit meat and porn, and asked him why? He replied, always being led away by these desires. When people have desires, they also have weaknesses. Later, he definitely did not quit meat and lust, after all, he was an ordinary person. But Reuben was different. He gave up love, love for his wife and love for his children. Reading martial arts novels, the really powerful characters are not recognized by the six relatives, and most of the martial arts masters are monks who have escaped into the air.

But in the end, it wasn't hate that saved him from prison, it was love. Hate put him in jail, love saved him. The little black boy decided to save Ruben after seeing his autobiography, so Ruben was finally rescued with the help of three Canadians.

The process of watching the movie reminded me of "The Shawshank Redemption", similar experiences, similar endings. They are real birds, the cage can't hold them back, and after a series of ordeals, they still have the freedom they long for. In the end, Ruben was acquitted and went on to do many things in his later life.

When I typed these words, I suddenly felt terrified. I was horrified because I suddenly realized that I was expecting less and less. If Ruben's matter is placed in China, there is no possibility of getting out of prison. The reality is that there is no expectation, what a terrifying reality in itself. How to hold on when hope is lost!

The Hurricane quotes

  • Det. Sgt. Della Pesca: You are making enemies that you don't know exist.

  • Lesra: Why'd you do all that?

Terry Swinton: 'Cause you were smart and funny.

Sam Chaiton: And short. We figured it'd be good for you to spend a little time with some tall white people.

    Terry Swinton: Yeah, Absolutely.
