The end is actually an open ending

Generally speaking, some details of this movie are handled well. For example, Pax6 is indeed related to neurodevelopment and eye formation. It is also common in research to infer the evolutionary relationship through gene sequence comparison. and many more.
But scientific research in reality is much more rigorous than in movies. The development of the entire higher organisms, whether in phylogeny or molecular level, as well as anatomy, is evolutionarily traceable, including the formation of eyes. And these are supported by a series of evidence chains. The last experiment was actually problematic, because it lacked negative control.
But as a movie, it's already pretty good to do it this way.

Let’s talk about the final outcome. The little girl’s test results are in a random range, indicating that there is no correlation between her memory and the former heroine’s memory, statistically speaking. But in the end, the fear of the elevator does not mean that she has the memory of the former heroine. There are many random factors that may cause this result, such as being born with claustrophobia or being frightened in the elevator before. But most people tend to think that the little girl is indeed the reincarnation of the former heroine because of the sensibility in her heart. This is also the reason for the existence of religion, a kind of comfort to yourself. If you believe in it, you will regard coincidence as a connection in the dark. But if people who don’t believe it will think more rationally, the previous tests (although I said these tests are not rigorous enough) will have more practical significance, and they will not only be concealed by the last illusion.
