Stanford Prison Experiments
Power, Tone, Injustice, Seeking Things for Torment, Humiliation.
When 8612 couldn't control others, he collapsed and wanted to quit. The prison guard who also wants to control will not lose, because he represents the system, and 8612 only represents himself.
- What do you do to get yourself out? - This is just an experiment. - I don't care about the experiment, but you have to take control of your life.
Forcing the hurt of others to limit changing someone's mind, just because you and others can't sleep.
Let others bully others, let those who don't swear swear, and let those who have integrity become unscrupulous. Everything went so fast, so violent, unbelievably fast.
Circumstances change people in bad directions, leaving you dumbfounded.
I wanted to see how insulted people were to resist, but no one said stop, no one questioned my authority, and then I started to abuse them and still no one resisted. - This is just a little guard, someone with power over prisoners.
You don't think you can do those things, but you can't imagine what you will become.
Give them batons, give us long skirts, and we become prisoners and lose our individuality.

The Stanford Prison Experiment quotes

  • Jesse Fletcher: You brought me here to legitimize this experiment and there's nothing legitimate about this place, Phil.

Dr. Philip Zimbardo: You're right. You're right. I didn't explain it well. Prisons, they represent a loss of freedom, literally and symbolically.

Jesse Fletcher: Yeah, but that does not explain why they're wearing dresses. They're wearing dresses, Phil.

Dr. Philip Zimbardo: Yes, I understand. Uh, we're trying to strip away their individuality. Make them uniform. Feminize them.

    Jesse Fletcher: Feminize them?

Dr. Philip Zimbardo: Yes. Feminize them. Take away all the things that make them them. You see, we're trying to understand how an institution affects an individual's behavior. We're trying to do something... We're trying to do something good.

  • Karl Vandy: It's easy for you to say, 'Oh, I wouldn't have acted that way', but you don't know. That's - that's the truth. You don't know. And now I know what I'm capable of, and it hurts.
