Humanity shines brightly

"Minefield" is not a typical war story. The story takes place after World War II, when Germany ended its five-year colonial rule over Denmark. It was a real event I had never heard of, and that's why I was so shocked and moved.
The Germans have left more than 1.5 million mines on the Danish coastline, and Denmark requires more than 2,000 Germans to go home after clearing them. And most of the more than 2,000 German soldiers are still teenagers. In the end, more than half were killed or injured.
First of all, this behavior confuses me, at the beginning of the film a sergeant major in Denmark punches and kicks a young German soldier with a flag. Why? Isn't the war over? Why are the Danes doing the same thing as the Nazis at the moment? Perhaps the hatred for the German army has reached the point where it cannot be resolved, perhaps this is the punishment for the German army, but why is it for the young German army boy? They threw themselves into the war at the behest of the country, but when they were defeated, they had to pay for the country and accept punishment for the country. Where is the country now?
In the film, the juvenile German army must first receive demining training, and then conduct demining on the shore under the supervision of the sergeant major. The story takes place between a dozen teenagers and the sergeant major. During the demining period, the teenagers had nothing to eat for several days, because Denmark had to take care of its own citizens first. At this moment, the brilliance of the sergeant's humanity appeared, and he brought food back from the military for the teenagers. Their relationship became closer and they started playing football together. But because of the negligence of the teenagers, the sergeant major's dog was killed, and the sergeant major told them to walk through the minefield side by side to check whether the mines were clean.
At this time, the sergeant major became the sergeant major from before. Is the life of a man inferior to that of a dog? The sergeant major has hatred for the German army and sympathy for the teenagers at the same time. This is a contradiction. He seems to be struggling with this contradiction. The camaraderie between them and the desire to go home are touched. And the reason why this film is excellent is precisely because the sergeant major finally chose the good side of human nature. He finally ignored the superior's stop and let four German teenagers go home.
Yes, only four teenagers survived, and the others were all killed. It is worth mentioning that there are two teenagers who are twins, one of them was accidentally killed during mine clearance, and the other formed a friendship with the little girl in the next farmhouse. When the little girl accidentally broke into the minefield, he went in. He comforted the little girl, and then he walked into the minefield and let himself be killed. Is this despair? Feeling hopeless about life after your brother died? He used to want to go home so badly, he was talking with the others about what he was going to do when he got home, the brothers had to get together, how wonderful these things were.
There is a lot more to discuss about this movie, such as who should demining? Are the Danes doing the right thing? But for us living today, this past event can only exist in our conversations, and more importantly, what enlightenment it can bring us. Not only anti-war, but perhaps also about the good and evil of human nature.
