I watched Pride and Prejudice and Zombies yesterday, the original party, and after watching the trailer, I was looking forward to this brain-opening movie. I have to say that the movie still disappointed me. It has nothing to do with the original book. The movie itself has a lot of unclear explanations, and I am disappointed in this.
It is not uncommon for the film to try to combine romantic love with zombies. Pride and prejudice are gimmicks. How many people go for this name, whether they have read the original book or not, it is certain to compare the original book. But it can only be said that the movie did not tell the love between Elizabeth and Darcy, nor the zombie story, so it became very embarrassing, but it is worth affirming that the movie can open up this brain hole.
Austen's original book is known for its seemingly calm daily life narrative. You don't seem to be a big thing, but it is so interesting in her writing. For example, when you attend a dance, you overhear other people's evaluation of yourself. But one thing becomes the theme of the novel: Pride and Prejudice. The various misunderstandings in the novel are too small, not just a few gossips, and Wickham is not a big villain, at most a playboy. But the novel is full of tension in this seemingly bland narrative. It must be said that Austen is very powerful and can hold people's hearts tightly. Let us follow her into the world of novels slowly. But the zombie film itself is destined to be impossible to be ordinary. The appearance of zombies breaks the order of daily life, and also breaks the narrative tension that Austin arranged in the original work. The film must rearrange its own tension, but this is obviously not the case. well done. The protagonists of the film are too busy, fighting zombies and falling in love at the same time. The narrative of the entire film makes people feel rushed and has too many loopholes. The most obvious is Wickham's blackening. After watching the movie, I still haven't figured out what he wants, does he want money? At least start the movie to give us this hint (this is also the premise of the novel itself), go to Lady Catherine for sponsorship or something, and then ask for money when Darcy comes out to rescue Lydia, and don't ask for money, saying that money is useless, to be Zombie King... The wounds on his body are also very strange. When did he get bitten? According to him, he should have been bitten after joining the army. So why did he ask for sponsorship? What logic is this... Darcy is also very strange. In the film, the setting of him feeding zombies to eat human brains seems to be blackened. Of course, because he is too noble in the original book, the original party cannot accept such a setting. It can only be said that his arrogance is set off by his ruthlessness towards zombies. The fact that Elizabeth and Jane turned into female warriors is very interesting, which basically conforms to the logical trend of the film. Lily's acting skills here are much better than Cinderella's. It would be more challenging for Elizabeth to overcome her prejudice and fall in love with him if she had another brain hole to turn Darcy into a zombie.
One thing that is worthy of recognition in the film is the proper placement of various memes: Japanese Kendo and Chinese Shaolin Kung Fu pk, which pleases Asian audiences; Doctor who turns into annoying Collins is also very funny; Darcy's white shirt swims in the lake to pay tribute It's a pity that the BBC version of the TV series did not appear wet...

Pride and Prejudice and Zombies quotes

  • Mr. Bennet: [in narration] It wasn't always like this, my dear daughters. As the century began, Britannia was rich with the fruits of worldwide trade. From the colonies there came not just silks and spices, but a virulent and abominable plague. Naturally many suspected the French were to blame. Are you surprised? Once bitten, the newly infected were filled with an insatiable hunger for the brains of the living. Millions perished, only to rise again as legions of undead. So certain it would seem the end of days had come. But even the four horsemen of the apocalypse are said to have ascended from hell. To protect the living, the Grand Barrier was built. A one hundred foot wall, encircling London. Then excavation began on the royal canal, a vast moat thirty fathoms deep surrounding both the city and its walls. The land twixt the two fortifications became known as The Inbetween. At this time it became fashionable to study the deadly arts of the Orient. Japan for the wealthy. China for the wise. In the second battle of Kent, one of the bridges that cross the royal canal was breached. Ravenous zombie hordes massacred every villager of The Inbetween. It was said the sight of this slaughter drove young King George mad. When the battle was finally won, he ordered the destruction of all the bridges, save one: Hingham Bridge. Which to this day remains the only means by which to cross the royal canal. Many believed the enemy was finally vanquished. The gentry began to leave the safe confines of London's defenses for their newly fortified country estates. But vigilance is still every essence. Remember this. Keep your swords as sharp as your wit. For the ultimate battle between the living and the undead has yet to be staged.

  • Mr. Bingley: I hate to see you just standing there. You must dance.

Mr. Darcy: Oh, you know I detest it when I'm not acquainted with my partner.
