Kaguya: In the end, things can't go as planned.

The beautiful ink animation film, like the hazy beauty of the misty rain in the south of the Yangtze River, hides sadness and despair. The desires and hustle and bustle of this world, like a cage shackled her. The bird in the cage always wants to go back to the sky, but doesn't want to, it's lost. ——I remember

seeing many people recommending this film. In the afternoon when the cold wave hit in early spring, I covered a thin blanket, hugged the hand warmer, and watched it quietly.
At the beginning, I was amazed by the film style like ink painting. The little people sit in the bamboo shoots, like a painting drawn with ink, so unreal, yet beautiful.
Such a fairy tale is so beautiful, the birds, insects, green grass, wildflowers and trees, the carefree life in the countryside, and the innocent laughter of children seem to be still in my ears.
In the blink of an eye, she was already in a luxurious mansion in the capital, no more freedom, no more laughter, the old tomboy-like little man was gone, and was buried in the mountains.
She thought about leaving, but she cooled down in front of reality time and time again. The crowd at the door of the house, Sagami's strict and old-fashioned teachings, the insolence and vulgarity of Tian Huang's nobles, and later, the unreasonable and arrogant emperor, all made it too late.

When I saw the ending, I always wondered if it would happen again if it all started from scratch.
But thinking about it, where did she have to start all over again, she came to this world to go through this world, and she wanted to go through all this. Her beauty is the source of all these tragedies, but it cannot be blamed on her, because it is not her or her beauty that is wrong, but the wishes and noise of the world.
In that luxurious mansion, she was like a bird in a cage, no matter how delicate the cage was, it was still a cage after all. And never, no one really cares, whether she is willing to live this life from now on.
Perhaps, her kind adoptive mother understood. The mother and daughter built a small paradise in the corner of the luxurious courtyard, so that they could escape briefly when they were tired. Of course it doesn't change anything.
The courtship of the royal family and nobles is more like a farce, swarming and ebb and flow. One more sarcastically than the other, leaving in embarrassment.
If these people knew that their actions would force her to flee, I wonder if they would have made the same choice. But people's hearts are inherently unpredictable, and when they regret it, it is too late.
Just like her adoptive father, he wanted to give her the best in the world, a noble family background, gorgeous clothes, and praise for his talents, but he never asked if this was what she wanted.

As for the characters in the play, what impresses me most is actually the little maid next to Kaguya. She looks silly, but she actually has a kind heart.
Five royal relatives and nobles came to ask for marriage, and she straightened the hem of her clothes from behind, inexplicably amused.
The cherry blossoms were blooming, and she was worried that Kaguya would not be able to go out to see the flowers, so she folded it back.
Kaguya was studying talent, she was listening, and sometimes secretly tried on Kaguya's beautiful clothes.
When the messenger came to pick up Kaguya, the little man stood in front of the door with a big knife in his hand, with a dignified expression on his face.
When she was about to leave, she appeared again, with a group of children, singing familiar songs, awakening short-term memories.
She is that loyal companion. Although she doesn't speak much, she is warm, mischievous and witty.

And a woman like Kaguya, with a free soul and a beautiful face, is not suitable for this filthy world. I still remember the scene of running away, she rushed out of the house and ran all the way just to escape this place where people's breath was stagnant. The long road was long, and the layers of her feather coat peeled off. Running all the way, the road is long and grassy, but at the end, only the desolation is waiting for her. It turned out that those familiar people had already left and did not wait for her to come back.
Regarding her nostalgia, the boy who was together when he was a child felt so beautiful when he saw the last two flying in the sky, but he was disillusioned when his son jumped out and called his father. It turns out that no matter how good a fairy tale is, after all, it has to be convinced by reality.
In the last scene, it was as if I saw Buddha Tathagata, the maid and posture in the style of the Tang Dynasty, and I suddenly felt that this was obviously a domestic painting style. Coupled with the ink painting-like style of the whole film, it is like a dream.

This is really a beautiful film, but it makes people want to cry because of reality and dreams. In this world, everyone has more or less some last resort, retreat, forbearance, but there is finally a point, which is the bottom line. Beyond that bottom line, no one can predict what will happen.
And there are more choices made by others for them. I didn't ask if they wanted to, but just forcibly added them. Painful struggle, escape, patience, always thinking that there is a way to go, but there is still boundless pain.
Things can never go as planned.

The Tale of The Princess Kaguya quotes

  • The Princess Kaguya: [singing] Go round, come round, come round... come round, oh distant time. Come round, call back my heart. Come round, call back my heart. Birds, bugs, beasts, grass, trees, flowers. Teach me how to feel. If i hear that you pine for me, i will return to you.
