First of all, the genres of the two films are completely different. "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon" is more inclined to literary and martial arts films. It is Ang Lee's search for answers to his personal confusion; "The Sword of Qingming" is an uncompromising martial arts film. It is a propagandist of responsibility, morality and honor.
Second, the two films are trying to express something completely different. "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon" is about the swing between rationality and sensibility, the confusion and pursuit from the male perspective, the part that Ang Lee aspires to in real life, the detachment of freedom and ideals, the implicit, swinging expression. "The Sword of Qingming" is an advocacy of responsibility, morality, and honor, a straightforward and just declaration, a release of Yuan Heping's martial skills, and a presentation that you and I can imagine without thinking.
Of course, the same thing is that they both present us a gluttonous feast through excellent visual images, but one is spiritual food and the other is visual stimulation.
In the end, I still need to express my attitude. Anything to the extreme is a success. It is a success for Yuan Heping, and it is also a success for Li An. It’s just that the foodies are different, so choose your own.
