Turn off all the lights, turn on the stereo, turn off the phone, and start watching the movie in an almost adoring mood. For me, "Hibernation" is a film made up of words and symbols, too abstract, like a shell that has been stripped of bones, without the need for the body to stand in front of the world with only the hard side of the soul. Obviously, my eyes can't see the essence of it, and all I see is this boneless flesh, which is extremely superficial.

"The person who lives in the grave"

The grave is a thing that depends on the dead and the tomb keeper. The dead body is lonely, and the tomb keeper who guards the corpse is even more lonely.
The whole film of "Hibernation" revolves almost around the term "loneliness", and the entire village of Asia Minor is almost a group of tombs covered under snow and ice. The protagonist Aiden is old and hypocritical, disguising himself as a kind public knowledge and trying to bury himself, but he has always been a sad and lonely gravekeeper. He has knowledge, but he does not have the confidence to become the actor he wants to be. He writes books and publishes articles all day long to become a benevolent person in the eyes of others, but he is lonely and unwilling in his heart. Aiden's characters don't have a strong sense of depth, they are nothing more than the image of a hypocrite in front of others and the identity of a tomb-keeper behind them. Except for Aiden, the rest of the main characters are like the cold corpses buried in the tomb, the idle sister, the self-pity wife, the farmer who lost his wife, the tenant who is running for a living, the driver who is on call, and so on. Everyone's heart is in hibernation, releasing the least amount of heat, lonely and dull.
A group of people living in the graves find the other side of life in their own way every day, and everyone carefully disguise themselves. However, once the enthusiastic living people break into this cold area, a certain balance in the cemetery will be broken. Young cyclists enthusiastically search for the true meaning of life, and use travel and danger to find a sense of self-existence. Aiden yearns for this search process. He is eager to talk to the young man, lower his identity, and hope to find his self as a "living person" in this process, but he often fails. Aiden wanted to leave the tomb, but he retreated before leaving. As he said, there was nothing he was familiar with. In the end, he adapted to living in the tomb and became a hypocritical manager who could control the whole scene. Finally, he said: Out: My kingdom is small, but at least I am king.
The human heart will hibernate, lonely but exist.

"Metaphysics and Existentialism"

"Hibernation" is full of mysterious and mysterious dialogues, and the word Turkish drama history appears many times. The task is also set to be intellectuals and social elites. Some people say that the dialogue performance of "Hibernate" is a tribute to Bergman, and this statement is simplistic and rude. Compared with the stage play, I prefer to describe "Hibernation" as a literary work, profound and unpredictable, several dialogues are extremely metaphysical, and the dialogues are full of good and evil, rich and poor, life value and self-realization. It tells about the class stance of Turkey and the religious atmosphere of Asia Minor, and involves love, dignity, and morality. This is what I explained at the beginning. This is a boneless film, relying on metaphysical soul support, but it does not have the same We of literary literacy have difficulty understanding the essence of it from the beginning. In fact, the whole film is full of Tarkovsky's language like scenes, the relationship between characters between static scenes and moving people, poetic long shots, literary dialogues and melodious music to construct such a film. Magnificent "blockbuster".
There are four metaphysical dialogues in the film that are worth recalling, the dispute between Aiden and his sister, the conflict between Aiden and his wife, the confrontation between his wife and the tenant, and the argument between Aiden and his teacher. The first two focus on the expression of personal emotions. Aiden's argument with his wife and sister about the relationship between good and evil is Aiden's justification for self-awareness. He doesn't know how to be kind, and his wife can do so-called kind deeds without any psychological burden. Aiden has already thought about it too much. He regards kindness as a part of disguising himself, and it eventually turns into a show. After the hypocrisy, the shame turned into anger. The dialogue between the wife and the tenant Smail is full of thrills, and the whole picture is as cold as a volcano is about to erupt at any time. The last climax of the dialogue makes people emotional, you think that someone will finally release a little enthusiasm, and sure enough, the teacher said: Shakespeare said that conscience is nothing but a term used by cowards, and they are afraid that the powerful will borrow it Prevarication is our conscience, and knives and guns are our decrees. "I have to say that the teacher Levent and the previous tenant in this section are the two most powerful people in the film. They are enthusiastic and full of rebellious emotions. They are not dull corpses, like a fiery volcano, but Aiden extinguishes them with a paragraph. The flames are extinguished, and the tone returns to the bleak again: we are exhausted, we pretend to be promising, I have brilliant ideas every morning, but I have nothing to do all day. Aiden used his own experience to knock down Shakespeare's famous line, this sentence The words are almost Aiden's self-description.
The power of metaphysical dialogue naturally arises from the crowd's self-seeking, which is existentialism. Aiden, who is sitting at the grave, is looking for himself, and his wife who cannot prove her self-worth is also looking for her own existence. , In my opinion, the film "Hibernation" is a very existential film created by Ceylon in the process of finding himself.

"White Horse and Hare"

Regarding these two things, I can't think of the deep meaning they represent. The horses were bought by Aiden from the groom, and the rabbits from a hunt. The plot of releasing the horse is very symbolic. It happened after Aiden quarreled with his wife. Aiden finally made up his mind to leave the hotel and leave the cemetery. His behavior of releasing the horse is also easy to understand as he wanted to free himself, and it seemed that he released the white horse. In fact, he released himself. The hare happened after a drunken argument. Aiden killed the rabbit while hunting. In the icy snowdrift, the hare released the heat of his life. When I saw this picture, I was actually very emotional. I think Aiden may be in In the end, he killed the last bit of his longing for freedom. All his heat was released like a hare before he died, and he could only hibernate forever in a cold grave. Thinking of Aiden's confession to his wife at the end of the film, he compared himself to a follower and a slave. This is Aiden's final analysis of himself. He became the eternal slave of this cemetery?
As far as I am concerned, I cannot understand these two things, and the above statement always feels like an over-interpretation.

Regarding photography, the film is a feast for photography fans. Ceylon stubbornly made every shot to be the most delicate. My favorite shots happened in the snow, pale and lonely, and the insignificance of human beings in nature was fully revealed in the ice and snow.
Regarding the sound, the teacher helped analyze the use of sound in Ceylon's "Three Monkeys" before. I only thought that Ceylon was really a control freak, and was shocked by the fineness of the sound, and even made me feel that it was right to make a sound while watching the film. A desecration of the sound of the film.

This is a film with a literary label. It can also be seen that "Hibernation" is influenced by many Eastern European films and literature. Many scenes let me see Tarkovsky's shadow several times. It is also like Alexander in Anzhe's "Eternal and One Day".

Supplement: After chatting with Master Lu for a long time in the group, I finally set the key point on how to look at a movie of more than three hours.

Lu: Often when faced with such a film with not strong enough emotions, not enough excitement and even some rambling, most audiences have been virtually shut out. The positioning of Hibernating is very simple. The middle-class elite cannot expect a level 10 rookie to fight a level 90 boss. This is very unfair. The positioning of Ceylon is very simple. The audience itself needs a certain level of knowledge to fully understand the meaning of some of the lines. Most people can only dig some rough and rough truths from the surface of such a movie. . As for how to watch a long movie of more than three hours, I think it depends on how much everyone likes movies. I think there are generally three types of people who watch movies. One is to watch movies. , the mind wanders constantly in the middle, and the emotional direction of the movie story is completely blurred. The second is watching movies. These people often force themselves to watch every frame of the picture seriously. These people are a group of people who respect the director very much. They feel that wasting a few seconds for a movie that may be a good movie is a waste of time. is disrespectful. The third type is to really love movies. This type of people needs a certain level of watching movies, and they can easily substitute into the emotions of the movie given by the director. This requires a certain understanding ability. They can quickly find the button, or even You can guess where the movie is going. Therefore, if you want to read and understand such a movie, there is no shortcut. You can only be full of reverence and respect, and then try to enrich your vision and improve your viewing level.

  • Aydin: Justice doesn't even exist in nature, why should it exist here?

  • Aydin: [Epilogue] Nihal, I didn't go away. I couldn't. Whether it's because I've grown old, or I've gone mad, or because I've become a different man, think what you like. I just don't know. But this new man inside me for a few days won't let me go away. Please, don't ask me to go either. I now understand nothing is calling me to Istanbul. Everything is alien to me there as it is everywhere else. I want you to know that I have no one but you. And I miss you every minute, every second that goes by. But my pride will never let me tell you this. I know very well how to terrible or impossible it would be to part from you. Just as I know that you do not love me anymore. I know we can't go back to the old days. And there is no need to. Take me with you like a servant, like a slave. And let us continue our life even if we do it your way. Forgive me.
