This film just doesn't make it clear, the more unclear it is, the more room for interpretation. If you don't understand Hungarian history and culture, especially the Hungarian cultural environment and what people in the culture are thinking, it's hard to fully understand what he means. As far as I know, Hungary is a Central European country. Before the First World War, it was the Austro-Hungarian Empire, one of the five hegemons in Europe, and then Archduke Ferdinand was assassinated in Sarajevo. The Austro-Hungarian Empire disintegrated after the First World War and embarked on the road of communism after the Second World War. In the 1990s, the Soviet Union and the East underwent drastic changes and became democratic again. Director Tara does not deal with the Communist Party, so he must be opposed to the Communist Party.
Probably a small town is used as a metaphor for Hungary, which is in the inland of Europe, where various forces are intertwined, but culturally very marginal. People's life is numb and boring. Suddenly told them to come to a very magical circus. The big whale in the container means some kind of gigantic, beyond reality, exciting thing, some kind of big and unreasonable ideology, some kind of conspiracy is hidden. But the whale was huge and silent, and it attracted everyone without saying a word. In the film, many people gathered in the square to have a fire. The square is a group activity in the culture of many countries, a stage for group events, and a group of boring people are attracted by whales and gather here. We see only the protagonist, the incarnation of the author, who bought a ticket to go in and see this whale specimen, which is just a lifeless specimen. Maybe there is another meaning of the film, that is, the protagonist incarnated by the author. He is a fragile and kind wise man. He first yearns for those sensationalists, then he comes into contact with this big secret reasonably and legally, and then he understands and leaves. But many other people with different minds have to take advantage of this momentum to bring about a violent revolution.
As for the "Prince", there is no trace. I also noticed the thin shadow and the harsh foreign language when I watched, this shadow and voice may be the prince. The image of the prince is about a specific practice of a certain kind of domination and enslavement, a demagogic ideology, a kind of ghostly propaganda discourse. His hidden form is in contrast to the prominent whale, each performing his own duties. Of course, the whale may also be innocent. It was originally just a beautiful creature that dived freely in the ocean of knowledge. Unfortunately, it was caught and hollowed out and made into a specimen, which was used as a brand to attract people. In the end, the people were also bewitched, they were beaten, smashed and looted, and the large and unjustified dead whales were exposed, but things also happened. That's what it means.
Secondly, the film is really crude in terms of technology and representational medium. Are long lenses great for handheld photography? If it is a long shot with a sense of design, "Russian Ark" is considered. I have no money but to do manual work. This film is nothing special in mirror language, it is mainly some vague thoughts conveyed by the director. The amateur male lead is very ugly, and the lengthy scenes of running with him are meaningless and annoying. The 2000 film looks like it was made by someone long since the 1950s.
I am very disgusted with those vulgar comparisons who clearly don't understand, but are busy praising arty style, and being hypocritical in the clouds but not expressing their lyrical words. Is it as embarrassing as a CCTV hostess? Have the ability to straighten your tongue and make it clear.
