Psychological profiling paradigms and the human trauma of war

The title of the film is Brothers, but the portrayal of brotherhood is very thin, which is a major flaw in the film. The focus and highlight of the film's performance lies in the psychological changes of the male protagonist Sam and the depiction of human nature.
The two table scenes that appear at the beginning and near the end of the film are fantastic. The first scene, where younger brother Tommy comes home from prison, erupts under his father's many belittlings and ridicules. On the second birthday of the youngest daughter, the eldest daughter, who was neglected, was aggrieved and said nothing. In these two table scenes, the camera constantly switches back and forth between the facial expressions of the characters, and the actors' performances and lines clearly show the characters' psychological states and the complex and delicate relationships of the people present. In addition to the table scene, there are many contrasts in the film, such as the physical contact between Sam and his wife Grace reflected in the bathroom mirror. The first scene takes place before Sam's accident, and the two are intimate young couples who are in a good relationship. In the second scene, after Sam returned from the battlefield, Grace tried to comfort Sam with a touch, but her tenderness and love seemed to hit a cold wall. It's all intentional by the director.
On the basis of a strong director and a solid script, the performance of the actors is a prerequisite for the film's appeal. All three main characters gave excellent acting skills. Tobey does a great job of showing Sam's tightness, madness, and nervousness after the big change. His stubborn belief that his brother and his wife slept was the result of growing suspicion. Humans are so good at piecing together fragmented observations that they often come to wrong conclusions, and Sam's suspicions are like a mirror in front of us. Sam was originally a very calm and self-controlled image. When he was captured by the enemy, he could rationally give advice to his subordinates to survive. From his mental disorder, it can be seen that war has alienated and destroyed human beings. In the film, the Afghans forced Sam to kill his comrades with his own hands, which is a dehumanizing method commonly used by evil forces. Grace and Jake's kiss was a little abrupt, but not without a trace. When a woman says "I hate a certain man", it may be that she knows that she will be attracted to this man. It is their stable nature that rejects the possibility of turbulence and adventure, a mechanism for self-protection.
All in all, Brothers, despite its imperfections, is still the best movie I've seen in half a month. At the end I thought Sam was going to kill his brother, but Sam wasn't completely destroyed in the end. In the end, Sam finally revealed his heart to his wife and got his understanding. Such a relatively Happy Ending obviously also contains the hope of the director and screenwriter. This kind of plainness and kindness adds a bit of warmth to the snow-covered picture.
