"I thought I was well hidden"

I knew I was going to love this movie when the dog said in subtitles, "I've mastered 150 words but I can't speak."

The cuteness of the dog is just the right scale.

The core selling point of all literary and artistic works since ancient times is loneliness, right?

So why "A Chinese Ghost Story" can become a classic and Wang Zuxian's beauty is obviously more beautiful and more charming in "A Chinese Ghost Story", but it is always too much - what is missing is the sense of loneliness.

That's why I never like commercial blockbusters.

That's why I love how this film plays with loneliness without a trace.

A puppy who is unable to speak will wailing heartbreakingly as soon as it leaves its owner. The only time it didn't whine was when the owner put it in foster care with his dad's ex-boyfriend - only the familiar smell of the old days reassured him that there were loving memories in that smell.

The male protagonist's mother recalled that in the camera, she was kissed in a perfunctory and routine manner without any warmth and left a lonely silhouette. The cynicism when viewing the exhibition in the art gallery, telling others that my son has appendicitis is just because he is a stoic child, so he didn’t express it, teaching him to shut up in his room when he was depressed, screaming and venting, letting his son sit in the car and give directions casually Going for a drive aimlessly...I think she's the loneliest person in the whole movie.

The father of the male protagonist is the motivation for the director to make this film. Memories of him and his boyfriend are really warm. They kiss him like glue and bring him caterpillars to make him happy. But that doesn't hide the deep sense of loneliness. Live to seventy-five to pursue a little freedom. "he didn't give up" said the male protagonist's girlfriend when watching his father's marriage advertisement before his death. Yeah he's finally living the life he wants in his last few years battling cancer. But it is precisely because of this that people feel more sad about his loneliness for the first 75 years.

The male protagonist's girlfriend is a wandering and insecure literary young man. Invited to live at the man's house, the man pointed to the chest of drawers and said: I made two empty drawers for you, you can put your things. Then she secretly sobbed. As for why she sobbed, I think there are two possibilities:
1. Because my family is not happy, and I have been living in the hotel all the time, I finally feel settled and sheltered, and I am moved to cry.
2. The male protagonist's words hurt her. "Put something for you". There was always a very temporary feeling, as if it was a guest who came to stay for a few days. She felt that the male protagonist behind these words did not really accept her as a part of her life.
However, no matter what kind of emotion it is, only urban autistic patients can sympathize with this sensitive and even hypocritical emotion.
The director caught it, and it must resonate deeply.

The male protagonist himself, the director gave him a lot of small details about his interactions with other characters in the film:
About the dog: educating the dog, talking to the dog, every time you abandon it and have to put it on the co-pilot and go on the road together
About the mother: pretending to be dead She likes it, but doesn't dare to ask her a lot of questions. I think he likes the heroine not only because she's good-looking, but because the heroine reminds him of his mother: a little weird, often doing some funny behavior, even Like pretending to kill him like a motherfucker.
About his girlfriend: Well, is this actually a dating guide for literary youth? He said that his mother never answered his questions properly, she just said that you can ask, and I will answer you whatever you ask. So this is the house, there are people in it, and half of them believe in miracles and the other half don't, and they argue about it.
About his friends: Paper and pen are not friends, friends are friends. When it comes to graffiti, don't take it too seriously.
About his father and his father's basic friends: His memories are interspersed with clips of their love. I think this may be that he lived almost 40 years old and finally believed in the existence of love in his original family.

"You're obviously lonely, why did you go to the party?"
"I thought I hid well."

All the long-awaited reunions.

  • Oliver: And what about the chair? Is it gay?

Hal: The chair is not gay, obviously.

  • Oliver: We didn't know how we learned the stories in our heads, but sometimes they stopped running, and I can really see Anna's eyes in 2003. Her ears. Her feet. This is what it looks like when she says, 'I love you,' in 2003. This is what it looks like when she cries. When she tells me there's always a new empty room waiting for her. They used to make her feel free. Now they make her feel the opposite of free.
