love that doesn't exist

Going out to watch this movie on a rainy day is entirely because of "Dream of Paris". The same director, I would like to know what kind of things he will make. But the feeling after watching it is completely different. If "Dream of Paris" builds a little utopia in a troubled world, then "Last Tango in Paris" is definitely a bitter medicine to wake you up from the delusion. The film is very long, and the pacing of European films is slow. Just after watching it, there is a sense of confusion, not knowing what the director is trying to express. But after thinking about it slowly, after thinking about it carefully, it seems that I can understand a little bit.

At the beginning of the film, Marlon Brando covered his face and shouted loudly under the roar of the train, trying to cover up his inner pain quietly in the noise of the city. The heroine, 20-year-old Jenna, bounces past him lightly, and in the movie, encounters are always full of fate. By accident, by coincidence, two people from different worlds meet in an old, empty room in Paris. Dilapidated furniture, sundries covered with white cloth, and the bad environment don't seem like a place for love, all that can be felt is lust. Mysterious middle-aged men are fatally attractive to little girls, and many literary and artistic works have described this point. Jenna wants to know everything about him, but he says "In this world that's only yours and mine, we don't need to know anything about each other". They use the most primitive attraction to start the most exciting erotic adventure.

At the same time, Jenna has a goofy boyfriend who is often unlikable in the movies, appearing goofy and neurotic. Jenna didn't seem to have any love for him either, and she was happiest when she was waiting for her secret lover in that old apartment. All the unknown is full of temptation for the young girl, she feels the sexual experience she has never had before, and listens to the mysterious words that she can't hear from boys of the same age, everything seems so perfect. The middle-aged man acted secretly and came and went without a trace. She knew almost nothing about him, but she knew that the old apartment was her paradise. Hidden happiness is often more fascinating than exposed happiness.

The middle-aged man was at a loss when facing his wife's cheating and suicide. He could only hide in the corner, or pour out his inner pain to his wife's body. The simple pleasure shown by the innocent Jenna made him angry, so he lectured her, punished her, and terrorized her. But in the end, he put down all the emotions in his heart and prepared to express his love to the girl in front of him and start life again.

He chased Jenna down the street in suits and shoes, took her to fancy tango competitions, and treated her to champagne. He said he was 45 years old, widowed, had a small hotel, and had neither a good nor a bad day. He took off his trousers in public by drinking alcohol and mocked those brightly dressed and elegantly dressed fellows. Jenna is panicked and disgusted when she sees the true face of this mysterious lover. Compared with the slenderness in the old apartment, the vulgarity in front of me is the reality. Love doesn't exist, and the old apartment is just vanity. The story ends unexpectedly when Jenna says her name and kills her former lover with a gun left by her father. He walked to the balcony, looked at the disgustingly real world in front of him, and collapsed, huddled in a state of a baby in the womb.

Jenna repeated, "I don't know him, I don't know him," and she didn't lie, she didn't even know his name. That happy paradise-like romantic love only exists in illusion. But in the tavern, he said to her, "House, bad hotel, castle, whatever it is, it doesn't matter, I just love you!" I was actually moved. . .

Compared with this awakening pessimism, I prefer the feeling of a peaceful corner in the troubled world in "Dream of Paris". There is a student movement outside, the current situation is turbulent, and the three of them live at home, living a beautiful life like a dream, what a yearning.

However, the movie is not a cure for the world after all, just an aspirin. Out of the theater, it was already cold.

Nostalgic literary movies are pretty good-looking

I admit that this movie is more difficult to understand, but it brings me a sense of despair, a bit like when I watched "Far From Casino" before. I have to say that Bertolucci has mastered the combination of sex and human nature so well, and he has always done so! Seeing Varda in the screenwriter, I was shocked...Marlon Brando is so decadent so good
