Mr. Stephens (Anthony Hopkins Anthony Hopkins) is a loyal servant who once served as the steward of a famous British prince. At present, he is dedicated to taking care of the mansion of the new owner, Lord Darlington, and has become the chief steward here.
Here comes a housekeeper Keaton (Emma Thompson Emma Thompson), she is shrewd and capable, and manages housework more flexible than Stephens, at first Stephens often has some minor conflicts with her. But as the time together got longer, the kind-hearted Keaton still moved Stephens secretly. Despite Keaton's repeated revelation, his gestures betrayed his love. But at every emotional moment, Stephens forbears his emotions, and his love for Keaton turns into a story buried in silence.
Keaton reluctantly bid farewell to this fruitless love, and left to marry a woman. At that time, the two met again, and the love in their hearts was still unspeakable, and the deep thoughts turned into a goodbye blessing at the station.

how to be a good butler? the colder, the better. In fact, I feel that the emotional scenes of the two have no pavement and cannot be regarded as the focus of the whole film. The historical background and the interpretation of the word "loyal" are worthy of analysis. There is also the decline of old-fashioned British beliefs and ideas. Indifferent and restrained, like a Capricorn man? indeed. Although I was panicked, it was not a boring film.

Such men are very irritating. They can't do anything besides letting you down, so in fact, they really want to stay away from such men.

The Remains of the Day quotes

  • Stevens: Miss Kenton. I really must ask you, please, not to disturb the few moments I have to myself.

  • Benn: I'm glad to be out of it, I can tell you. There was something about Sir Geoffery and his blackshirts. They gave me the creeps.

Miss Kenton: Mr. Stevens always says its up to us to run the house and leave the rest where it belongs. You don't agree, Mr. Benn?

    Benn: No.

Miss Kenton: Neither do I, really.

Benn: Well, if I don't like something, I want to be in the position to say, "stuff it." If you will pardon the expression, Miss Kenton. But, I suppose I'm not a real professional, like Mr. Stevens.

Miss Kenton: It's Mr. Stevens whole life.
