We walk in the two-dimensional world, God overlooks the three-dimensional world

blood simple focuses on the fate of little people, and the "force majeure" that determines their fate is the limitation of human cognitive ability. Each of the film's protagonists only gets a piece of the puzzle, and it's not enough to get them out of the labyrinth of events, not enough to get them out of the labyrinth of the four's entangled relationship. The viewer has the perspective of an omniscient God, which keeps us in a state of anxiety, worry, and entanglement.
The world we live in is a giant maze. We are in the labyrinth, touching the complex external world, but we can only rely on fragmented, fragmented, limited observation, experience and reasoning to stumble forward. We can move, move rationally, and even find the exit of the maze, but we can never see the full picture of the maze. We are not God.
Interestingly, the elements that form the maze in the film are very simple, and the driving force behind the story is not complicated. It is just the entanglement of the interests of the four people, and no other elements are intertwined. In this sense, it is a closed story, a story driven by "endogenous dynamics". It is such a simple relationship that makes us feel deeply powerless and hopeless. We can imagine how complicated this maze would be in an open world.
We walk in the two-dimensional world, and God overlooks the three-dimensional world. blood simple, let us have a God's perspective.
The first time I watched the movie on the afternoon of August 16, 2015. On the morning of August 17, 2015.

Blood Simple quotes

  • Abby: I said, "Marty, how come you're anal, and *I* gotta go to the psychiatrist?"

    Ray: What'd he say?

Abby: Nothing. He's like you, he doesn't say much.

    Ray: Thanks.

Abby: Except when he doesn't say things, they're usually nasty. When you don't, they're usually nice.

  • [grabbing Abby from behind after breaking into Ray's house]

Marty: Lover boy really oughta lock his door. Lotta nuts out there.
