just so cool

I really fall for the prologue speech made by Oliver Tate: My Dear Americans, The film you are about to see is a biopic of my life. The events take place, not so long ago, in a proud land called Wales. Wales is next to England, a country you pretend to treat as an equal. My homeland has produced Catherine Zeta-Jones, Tom Jones and some other people. You have not yet invaded my country and for this I thank you. Submarine is an important film. Watch it with respect. Fond regards from your protagonist, Oliver Tate.
And during the film, there's something that is referred to the beginning speech." I wish life would be more like American soap operas. Then whenever things get dramatic, you can just fade the picture down and gets up again later." And later when Oliver thought his mother was having something with Graham, who, here, is a symbol of American man, he said " I don't want a misty Ninja to be my stepdad, I don't wanna to be from a broken family like chips when he tracks and tops, sipping cokes and taking gain-weight drugs in shopping malls..." All these teases are all right up my alley.
And the way they filmed the super-8 footage is cool too. And I love the dogs and the seas so much, and the colors that stand for the characters.

It's not bad as a debut novel, but strictly speaking, apart from the praise of the original sound, this English-style little freshness can only be regarded as quite satisfactory in other aspects. Many settings in the film can be found in the shadow of other movies. The shooting method is very nostalgic and the picture is full of colloidal particles. In this way, it is also pleasing to tell the story of youth that is easy to be dull. ★★★

Three and a half stars... alas, the whole family is neurotic... but the soundtrack is not bad

  • Oliver Tate: To us and a wonderful evening of love making.

  • Oliver Tate: My mother is worried I have mental problems. I found a book about teenage paranoid delusions during a routine search of my parents' bedroom.
