Before World War I, the German Zu (Oskar Werner) and the French (Henri Serre) met in Paris. They share similar interests, share a strong and common interest in poetry and fiction, and are even fascinated by the same sculpture. As a matter of course, Zu and Chamdo fell in love with the same woman: the smart and beautiful Catherine (Jeanne Moreau).
In such a relationship, Zhan chose to fulfill the gentle and simple ancestor. They went on holiday to the countryside together and had a wonderful time.
