When I saw the introduction of the film "Unpiloted", I didn't feel much expectation, but after watching it, I went to the OST to listen to it. It is really the best music in the film I have seen this year. At the beginning of the film, Sam's son is recording a song. The young man looks no different from an ordinary college student, but he is a little nerdy. The father Sam is a typical modern urban elite. He has a successful career but rarely cares about his family. He even told his son that you should skip class. While waiting for his son in the restaurant, he saw news on TV that there was a shooting incident at his son's university, and there were casualties. So the plot suddenly took a big turning point. This young man was actually the main culprit in the shooting case. He killed six classmates and then committed suicide. Sam couldn't accept the facts for a while, couldn't face the society and couldn't face himself, so he quit his job in the following days, started a painter, lived on a small ferry, and used alcohol to anesthetize himself.
Until one day, when he accidentally sorted out his son's belongings, he found the song recorded by his son before his death. He listened to these songs over and over, picked up the guitar and learned to sing them. By chance, he sang his son's song in the bar. This song attracted the attention of a young guy, Quentin. The guy thought the song was very good, and he felt that the uncle must have good "goods", so he was stalking. Hit and uncle became friends and formed a band. Good music has such a magic power, it made Sam get out of the haze, gradually healed and redeemed him; it made Quentin and a group of friends more and more popular, and made him try to write his own songs.
It's all going so well, but if the movie doesn't have ups and downs, the writers are lazy (just kidding). When Quentin finds out that Sam's songs were actually written by his son, the mastermind behind the school shooting. Thinking that those beautiful songs are songs of a murderous demon, at this time most people will despise these songs, Quentin naturally couldn't accept it, he gave up the opportunity to participate in the music festival, and cut his robe with Sam. Sam knew that Quentin wouldn't change his mind if he said anything about it at this time. He only hoped that Quentin, who was the same age as his son, would not give up his dream of music and would not be depressed.
Children who love music will not be bad. Children who can write beautiful melodies may only be depressed and extreme to do irreparable things. These music are the backbone of the whole movie. Because of the music written by his son, he stood up again, and now he can't hide his feelings on stage. He's just a father, a father who has lost a child, and people should treat him fairly and not because he's a murderer's father. Music should only be good or not, not mixed with concepts of right and wrong, but the reason why these music that was sought after by people at the beginning was finally spurned by people was because their author was a murderer. So music also has a concept of right and wrong, and the music made by criminals has also changed its flavor, which makes people feel uncomfortable.
The film can be said to have an open ending, and even the screenwriter may not know how the protagonists should go. But what is certain is that Sam will not give up on himself again, and hope Quentin has a good ending.
