David may not want his children to be like him, or maybe he doesn't want to add pressure, but Katie, who came from an ordinary family, doesn't understand him. So David put out the cigarette, stood up, and said, "There is something wrong with me."
When David's father told David that Katie couldn't be part of their family, David replied, wouldn't that be great. Katie and David, like a dream encounter, is out of his original world. Whether he loves her, or loves her naivety.
The family, the world view of the two, and the huge gap caused the final tragedy.
