Mortal Edition "Moving America"

This "Saint Vincent" is not among the hits of the awards season, but it is definitely a surprise. Judging from the subject matter itself, it belongs to that standard "routine type" movie. A middle-aged man and a child who gave up on themselves, from mutual disgust to mutual dependence. But it is such a story that is shot according to the standard framework, which makes many moviegoers' eyes wet. It's full of meaningful, humorous details, sometimes poignant and sometimes hilarious. To put it bluntly, "Saint Vincent" is an American mortal version of "Moving America".
Actor Bill Murray has starred in movies, and the evaluation is not low, such as "Moonrise Kingdom", such as "The Grand Budapest Hotel", and was nominated for the best actor Oscar for his role in "Lost in Translation." This time, he plays Vincent, a disgusting old man who is addicted to alcohol, has a bad temper, lives in a filthy house, and tries to pay off loan sharks by gambling on horses. Single mother Maggie moved in next door with her son Oliver. In order to make ends meet, Maggie had to double work in the hospital. Occasionally, she had to hand over her son to Vincent to take care of him. At first, this thin boy was afraid of Vincent, and Vincent also regarded him as a burden, looking for various reasons to ask his mother Maggie for money. But before you know it, things start to change. Vincent took the boy to the racetrack, to the bar, and let him meet his girlfriend who was a stripper. When he was bullied at school, Vincent vented his anger for him and taught him to fight to protect himself. In a way, they formed a kind of father-son relationship. The shot of two people standing on both sides of the sandbag and practicing boxing is extremely warm.
In this type of typical film narrative model, someone like Vincent must have some hidden "quality". His cynicism is actually just a shell to hide his frustrated life. He has sealed his true feelings, but he just doesn't want others to see his vulnerability. In fact, he went to the hospital every week to visit his mother suffering from Alzheimer's disease. He used to be a loyal veteran who risked his life to save his comrades. He has countless bad problems, but he always has an instinctive kindness in his heart.
From the boy Oliver's point of view, Vincent is an interesting person. As an overprotected child who lacks fatherly love, Vincent opened a door for him and made him feel a different kind of care. From Vincent's point of view, this burdensome child made himself aware of responsibility and hope. This kind of film, if the control is not good, it is easy to be suspected of preaching. But the movie did a good job. Even if there are some fake "positive energy" and educational details, they are completely in line with the character's character and can make sense. For example, Oliver learned how to kick a vending machine to get an extra snack. After Vincent looked at it, he muttered, "This is essentially stealing." Oliver thought about it, and then made a supplementary payment. The movie does not make sense about such things, but only allows the characters to express their thoughts in a suitable state, so that children can learn moral self-discipline.
The reason why the film is called "Saint Vincent" is because of a more ingenious setting. Oliver's school wants everyone to discuss the concept of "saints" and give a lecture. Some of my classmates said Mother Teresa, others said characters from the Bible. And Oliver seriously investigated Vincent's past, visited his friends, and said at the report, "The saint I want to talk about is called Vincent." The child said all of Vincent's shortcomings, as well as his All good. Vincent's life was played on the big screen one after another, and he himself was watching from the stage wearing a torn shirt. The scene was really moving. For the first time, a marginal character who abandoned the world and was abandoned by the world was treated so solemnly for the first time.
There is a line in the movie from Oliver's teacher, "A saint is someone who sacrifices and devotes himself to others." But Oliver's choice of Vincent completely overturned this sublime concept and made "saint" homely and lovely . A flawed person is more likely to win hearts than a perfect person. Following a "bad guy" by worldly standards, the kid Oliver learns the best things about him.
His life scrolling on the big screen has also penetrated time epicly, perhaps tearing apart the hard shell of Vincent himself. His initial resentment towards the world, his helplessness and persistence during his recovery in the hospital after a stroke, and his childlike naughty after recovery are all signs of subtle changes in his attitude towards life. After the two got along, the child grew up, and Vincent became gentle with the world. Those saints who remain in the legends and texts, let them continue to circulate. We can perceive the people around us, who have many shortcomings and who also give us warmth, are the real "sages".
