What's left besides acting

For most movies, the story is what makes or breaks the movie. And this movie can only be described as dog blood in the story. The plot that is too dramatic loses its authenticity, and it also makes the movie less powerful.

Every character in the movie has some sort of disgusting quality, which is perfectly normal in a movie of this age. People love these kinds of flawed characters because they're real and they resonate with the audience. But the thing is, successful movies make the shortcomings of these characters logical. The audience knows that these kinds of characters do the wrong thing and understands why they do it. Just like the character of Aunt May in this movie, although the acerbic to the extreme, the film explained enough background stories for the audience to understand the sadness behind her acerbic. In contrast to all the other characters in the film, they do something disgusting in some way, but the film does not fully explain their behavior, so the audience can't understand their behavior. Such a character is a failure, and the movie is full of them. Perhaps it is related to the movie being a theatrical adaptation, and the length of the film limits the shaping of the image. But instead of that, it's better to get rid of a character or two.

Everyone is praising the film's acting skills. Indeed, the powerful cast is the highlight of this film. But a lot of great actors are wasted. I don't understand why ewen mcgregor and benedict cumberbatch are in this movie, they don't have much room to play, the characters themselves are not attractive, and they can be played by other actors. Aunt Mei and Dazui are undoubtedly the protagonists, and both of them performed very well in the play. Several big conflict scenes are full of dramatic tension, and both of them are very explosive. But I have to say, with the rhythm of the movie being two minutes and five minutes, I just feel very tired as an audience, why are you yelling all the time?!

Maybe many people gave this film high marks because of its excellent acting skills, but I think the acting skills always serve the story, and the failure of this movie's bloody plot and lack of three-dimensional character design is doomed to the mediocrity of the movie. 3 stars at most.
