My students are from the mountainous area of Yunnan, where teachers and students are afraid of encountering the big problem of English. Until one day I learned about Annie's story and was moved by the theme song Tomorrow. I actually have the courage to give the little choir singers who usually sing folk songs a new challenge at the end of 2014.
The school's choir was newly established in 2014, mainly composed of 22 students who were recommended by the music teacher and passed the audition. This is the school's first official extracurricular activity club for students, but at the beginning of the group, some students voluntarily quit because of their lack of self-confidence. The reason they gave was nothing more than "Teacher, I'm afraid I can't do well" "Teacher, girls from other grades said I can't sing well" "There are no boys in our class, and I don't want to participate." During that time, I was fed up with the reasons for not having the courage to challenge myself and change the moment. As a teacher, I should think more about how to guide students to dare to think and dream.
Due to the tight schedule of middle school students, the choir practice every Wednesday afternoon during the break. In order to enhance the understanding among the members and cultivate tacit understanding, we have dinner together in the afternoon, and we will always attract the envious eyes of other students while talking and laughing. As for teaching English, the first step is to take the students to understand the content of the lyrics and the story that Anne experienced. Then, the order of teaching songs is from the most familiar chorus to the beginning to the turning point, and only three sentences are taught in each practice, so as to help them build their confidence step by step. Yes, if you don't do well at the beginning, happiness and enjoyment are the reasons why you can stick to it.
