About monsters, about the formation of John's "personality", about Tianma, about Nina's psychology, other film reviews have thoroughly analyzed it. I just wanted to share my opinion.
1. Pegasus. As the protagonist of this film (seemingly), Tianma Xiansan's father and father attributes always give me a beautiful and unreal feeling. After completing another monster, I feel that Tianma has a unique personality charm, such as discovering the advantages of others, unreserved and sincere praise and recognition of others, etc., can make others quickly trust him. Another monster mentioned that Tianma has a "forbearing sense of justice" (it seems to be this, I can't remember the original text), after choosing to rescue the vocalist and abandoning the Turkish civilians, he was condemned and broke out, choosing to rescue John instead of the mayor . Later, knowing that he helped a monster resurrect, he imposed a heavy burden on himself that "this monster must be destroyed to make up for his fault". I don't know why, but Tianma always gives me the feeling of Emiya Shirou (don't hit me), that kind of life belief that it doesn't matter what kind of person you are, and you can give everything you have to yourself for others without reservation.
The faces of the three protagonists on the cover of this film can also be seen how Tianma feels throughout the animation: shocked. First of all, I was shocked and shocked when I learned the concept that "human life is not equal". Shocked to know that he had saved a monster. In the step-by-step pursuit, I found John's life experience and the story behind it, and I was shocked. But fortunately, he still didn't kill a single person in the end, and continued to go on the same day, which is gratifying.
2. Nina. I still like Nina very much. Although she was abandoned by her mother and sent to the "Red Rose House", she lost all these unpleasant memories and became a healthy, lively and positive girl, so she was not destroyed. Nina told John about everything after escaping from the red rose house, but she forgot the sentence "people can become anything, you are a pair of such beautiful rubies, so you must not become monsters", John made himself a monster (I guess). Although she remembered all the memories in the end, since she was not swallowed by the monster in her heart (losing her feelings as a human being), she chose to keep all these memories, not to obliterate her own existence, Tianma, and Dieter , as well as the memory of John, are worth preserving. The reason why people exist is because of the accumulation of these memories, so John chose to erase these memories to completely kill himself on a social level.
3. John. First of all, let's be crazy, John is really beautiful! Damn, every time John comes out, he can't help licking the screen prprpr. The formation of John's character is something I don't understand. The reasons I know are: I
don't know if my mother expected to live, he is not sure if my mother got him and his sister wrong and sent his sister out by mistake;
all the things that the sister told him in the red rose room, he was alone He said "Don't become a monster";
in order to protect his sister, he chose to let her kill him, but in fact he didn't want to be killed by his sister, and he hoped to be forgiven. Because the farm couple was killed before, and the Libet couple was killed to protect him and his sister, but this behavior was not forgiven by his sister;
but for these known reasons, I don't think it can make him become A complete monster. In fact, the third rule can't be counted completely, because he was basically a monster at that time, and this rule mainly pushed John to the abyss that could not be redeemed.
Maybe I didn't read it carefully enough, I hope I can understand it after the second, third, and N weeks. There has been speculation online that it was because John received a more brutal home education after being taken by his sister. Their mother raised John into a monster in order to avenge Franz. Didn't John also tell Nina that he read the picture book "Monster without a Name" in three frogs every day when Nina was taken away. (I presume that Nina's memory about this passage was narrated by John, but I don't know why the twins' memories were swapped, because of the missing sentence?)
4. Monsters. I think a monster is something that devours normal human emotions. A "person" who has been devoured by all his emotions as a person also becomes a monster. The orphans of 511, the children who participated in the reading session, have become monsters without normal human emotions. And it should be John who suffered the most. Because he was a genius again, he caused the most damage. He has no human emotion, and thinks that he has no meaning to live in this world, and that no one needs him, so he needs to obtain the meaning of life through various methods. That's why he established the underworld bank and gained money; became Hubert's secretary and gained fame.
Money and fame were readily available to him, and he soon grew tired of the game. In addition to money and fame, what the world pursues is love. John was never loved, and no one loved him. Although their mother says she has always loved them, would there be a mother who loves her children without giving them a name (the name should be a sign of a unique person)? After that, John saw "The Monster Without a Name" and just wanted to complete the perfect suicide.
Because at the end of "The Monster Without a Name", one monster said to another monster, we didn't have a name. The name here should not only be the name, but also the identity as a social person. Through this picture book, John understands that obtaining his identity as a social person through various means, that is, a "name", is meaningless to him, because he is originally a "monster without a name". These names belong to others, not him.
As for the ending, many people in the barrage said that the film was unfinished, but I really didn't think so. It doesn't matter whether John stays or goes. The monster in his heart will never disappear, but he will no longer just obliterate his existence and pursue the perfect suicide. Because the little angel Tianma rescued him again. The first time he saved him was because of his confrontation with the belief that "people are not created equal", and the second time, it was because of the doctor's own job and Tianma's own kindness. John bathed in the light of Tianma's holy father (wrong!) and felt the charm of Tianma's personality, so he must have followed Tianma in the end, um (big mistake!).
As for the ending of John, it doesn’t really matter. I don’t think Urzawa told such a story to describe John’s life. Of course, John’s manifestation as a “monster” should be emphasized. But in the end, John also Something has changed, it's not the pure monster anymore, so the story ends. What Urazawa wants to tell is the story of those who have no feelings, not only John, but also Grema, as well as the stories of the 511 people, the stories of the monsters in their hearts. So the ending is pretty happy.
Last but not least, Uncle Grima. I really love him, and it's no wonder that as soon as he came out, many people cheered on the barrage "The favorite character is here!". As a member who came out of 511, Grima also lost his emotions as a human, and was schizophrenic, splitting the personality of "Superman Sutanna". There is always a smile on his face, but a smile is only his tool, a disguise, not an expression of emotion. He has no emotions. But he is different from John. Although he has no emotions, he does treat people and things around him genuinely and tenderly (maybe it is his own character that is like this, or because of the cup of hot water that Radish Tou gave him when he was a child) Coco warmed him? I don't know about that), so he didn't become John.
After that, after the massacre in the town, he felt "anger" because of the death of that blond girl, and gradually regained his emotions as a human being. Although he still died in the end, it is gratifying that he died as a "human" at the last moment, not a monster without feelings.
Uncle Grema's last words are believed to be the tears of many people.
"It's so sad... It's not because I'm going to die that I'm sad... My child died, and it's only now that I'm sad... Humans can't lose their feelings... Feelings go somewhere I don't know and lose their way... just It's like the letter that was sent to me was received after decades...Is this real sadness...Is this happiness?"
In the process of growing up, for self-protection, people may continue to Abandoning some of the children's excess emotions and sensitivity to things, this is probably the evidence that monsters exist in everyone's heart.
The writing is messy, and I feel like I don't understand a lot of things. Hope to understand after N weeks. This movie is so good.
